I got mine from

Merry Christmas.
Wow, that's even better lol
thanks![]()
Are they the four elements screwed together with mitre joints or the single welded frame type like the MaxiDrive/MR Automotive type?
Not sure that I'm keen on one that uses the glass to maintain it's strength.![]()
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
I guess they would be the four elements, freight would be expensive if it was one piece. How much are the MR Automotive/ MaxiDrive ones?
I heard a rumour that 'someone' in England makes an aftermarket one-piece aluminium combined tailgate conversion for the Classic...
Any truth in this? I suspect not, but no harm in asking!
For those vertically challenged and wanting to easily access full-depth of the boot area...and are fed-up with impaling themselves on those two 'horns' along the tailgate.....

Okay I got my kit the other day and have removed glass from the old one and have fitted to the new frame etc, but.......... I thinked I ****ed up slightly. there was those rubber spaces I was suppose too fit on the tops of the edges of the glass to hold the glass in central to the frame?, instead I fitted just before the edge on the inside of the glass which made the glass sit tight up against the outside of the frame in places. There is 1.5mm gap on the outside between window and frame but in the middle of the frame it's tight up against the window and frame and wouldn't have much room for silicon + I can bearly fit the wiper shield which squeezes between the top bit of the frame and the glass in places. Should the glass be in the middle with equal amounts of silicon front and rear?
The kit came with a couple of pages of instructions but the wording is a bit confusing which led me down the wrong path I think. However if I put the rubber spaces on the very edges, looking at the inside of the glass laying down would have caused the glass to sit flush up against the outside of the frame anyways, so what's right?
I am in desperate need of a good quality upper tailgate as well.
The famous four one is I guess one piece, because I asked them.
-The one from allmakes is the same manufactured by rangerovertailgates, and would like to get some feedback about it (especially if it fits well or rubs against strikers)
-Then there's the FF (famous four) one and the Simmonites one
Which one did you get?
It seems that all of them come with "comprehensive" instructions but in the end, the instructions are all but instructions.
Did it come with associated hardware as bolts, rivets, and so on, or did you have to buy them separately?
Of course all hardware should be transferred from the old one, but nearly all bolts will have to be cut through as they will have probably seized.
Besides, where could I get hold of the MR automotive/Maxidrive? Any online shop that does international shipping?
Best regards from Spain

Just be careful about butting the glass up to the frame.
I was on a club trip a few years ago with a fellow club member who had a new Maxidrive? upper tailgate fitted the day before the trip.
The next day the glass was smashed into a zillion pieces, presumably from glass expansion against the frame.
I would go to the trouble of having the glass shaved if it fitted hard up to the frame and make sure the silastic is on the flat glass leaving the edges room to expand or a bit of panel beating /grinding on the frame.

I ended getting mine from Simmonites which is made by allmakes 4x4.
It includes all the screws/rivets etc for the job+ all the associated metal panels. There is still some predrilling required which is a bit annoying ie lower rubber track and upper water track thingy. Also the 4 plastic retainers for the metal rod which one broke trying to remove from old one. They didn't include this but isn't required apparently.
I haven't fitted mine in yet as I have my little issue. It looks like I'll remove my glass again and remove silicon from the side I've done and try and locate the glass in the middle of the track so both sides have even amounts of silicon.
It worked out to be $390AU delivered to my door.
I'm very happy with the strength of the frame despite that it's screwed together. I had to do a little filing where a small metal bar slides in to the frame to screw the hinges on ( was a small bur).
I had to haxsaw my old frame to get the glass out as all the old screws were rusted badly. It is a time consuming job but definetly worth it in the long run. I'm happy with the kit and I'm glad I don't have to chase up anything to do the install, apart from some drilling and riveting.
Cheers
