    Front diff and viscous coupling...

Just had a thought...while I had the front of the 93 jacked up the other day testing the viscous coupling I had the right front tyre off the ground and the left front had very little weight on it. As I was turning the right tyre the left tyre spun a little also BUT it spun in the same direction as the right tyre. Is this normal? I know from all my other 2WD cars that if you have both rears off the ground and spin one tyre the tyre on the other side generally spins the opposite way.
Is the front diff a limited slip diff perhaps? I don't know...
Still trying to figure out why my front tyres are wearing out much more rapidly than the rears. I think I will be fitting original spec boges to the front but I am going to get the out of England. Much cheaper than buying them anywhere here.

No not usually but someone could have fitted one or fitted a CIG locker, but you would notice that in the steering.( I hope)

You may want to have a harder look at the diff .... If it's the original open centre ... and it's fried ...

Then it's the tyres that will wear

    Revisited

Well on the weekend I jacked up the entire front end for a 'proper' look.
It turns out that the diff is working as it should and so is the VC.
So I don't know what's wrong with my Cooper tyres. Perhaps it was the low pressure beach work 16psi that caused the original damage. Only on the fronts though. So I have put the rears on the front and vice versa and will monitor how it goes over the next few days and weeks. Running about 40psi.

If you have different tyre depths on the rear and the front
IE ... 80% tread rear / 50% tread on the front ... this cause's the VC to work hard and can give various tyre wear results ... (as it's a constant 4x4 and really should have the same tyre size & tread depth on all 4 corners)

At the moment the difference in tread depth front to rear is only about half a mm
