Where the main fuel tank used to be!
The 2 sill tanks I have for petrol are under each seat... driver and passenger between the chassis and body. Not under each seat but under the floor where each seat is.

Hmmm, lets see.... My last fill-up (tonite) gave me

    19.86 litres per hundred, = $27.84

    = 5.03 km/litre

or 14.2 mpg in old money.

On gas, at 78 cents per litre,

    =28 litres per hundred km = $21.84

    = 3.57 km per litre

= 10 mpg in gaseous money...

Is my maths ok ? looks like a saving of $6 per 100km..... or around $20 per fill... Not tooo bad, especially if one can fit a sequential injection system for $980 or so plus tank(s) plus labour to fit/check/qualify for grant.

    Hmmmmmm....

Do the sill tanks go on the LH side where my EAS air-tank is... and the control valves & compressor go on the RH side ?

My '90 classic manual used to get 280ish k's on 70lt usable LPG, 310 on 75lt standard unleaded and about 350 on 98ron. On gas it cost about the same as my wifes little laser to run.

Sold George (my rangie) and bought a 2000 NM Poojero as I needed something a little more economical and respectable for a reps car for my business.

The Paj is more economical, far more comfortable to drive, quicker, roomier, more practical for our family lifestyle, goes just about anywhere George did (only difference being I have to hammer it rather than crawl over obstacles) and I hate the goddamn soulless piece of reliable Japanese engineered crap.

It speaks volumes that I still frequent this forum nearly three years after I sold my cash consuming dodgily built Rangie, they're like that faithless tart of a smoking hot girlfriend that you had in highschool. You just can't help but love the damn things.

    Don't sell it.

Give it a tit job and a facelift and be the envy of your sensible mates.

Give it a "What?" job ?????

    - Which is why I have'nt disposed of my rattly old NG diesel Pajero... the bugger always goes!

Was thinking of going to a RR outing some time, use the Paj to tow a car trailer / Rangie down there... do all my off-road bragging in the Rover, then tow it home again. That way I can be assured of getting both there and back.

-D'you reckon the other Rangie owners would lynch me ?

I've reached the vintage where *boring* has lots to recommend it., as does 'Reasonable' in the thirst department.

Your fuel consumption figures for petrol are the same as mine, and your LPG is quite good, 11.29 mpg or 25 litres per 100km, and at 73 cents is
    $18.25 /100km

I used to get 3.5km/litre in an 89 model (3.5 litre in good nick, older vapour LPG setup) towing a one-ton sweeper on a half ton trailer. around
    $20/100km.
We were very happy with that, till we built a newer trailer with less mesh in the ramp. Then the Old Girl could'nt hold top gear over 90km/h
It was surprisingly quick off the mark, but started dying above 50 km/h

    - The Series 1 diesel Disco we replaced it with was humiliatingly disinterested till 40 or so km/h, then got into the mood and we were over 100 and beyond with no fuss at all.

But I have'nt tried advancing timing and using 98 RON.

I have made the decision, so thanks for all that have replied... i am going to keep the rangie, and make it look good and hope to buggery that the drive-train and the engine keep humming along for a few more years to come... i do need help.

The tit job and face lift (my wife even laughed at this before asking if she could have one) is going to be as follows (i think she's figuring out where she is in the pecking order... finaly after 7 years of marriage - i did have the rangie first).

I am going to start by doing things that i 'think' i can do. So that will be retrimming the inside, likely to just paint the vinyl and make all cloth inserts leather. Major retrim of the dash to make it a soft dash and i'm also going to build a fibreglass pod to house a double din GPS/DVD unit as well. Will post my rebuild efforts as they materialise. Seats are likely to be professionally retrimmed - unless anyone knows of any RRClassic seat covers in black or creame are available, in which case i'll just put them over the top. Going to make repairs to the head trim and put in better internal lights (LED's where possible).

WHAT I NEED HELP WITH SOURCING - Perth locale preferred, but happy to ship smaller items:
*Wood Dash trim - does anyone know where i could source this? any kind of repair, as i plan to sand it back and restain it another colour.
*RHS Rear external vinyl/leather D post trim - in good repair - ie no tears or holes
*Centre console for 5 speed - decent repair (i plan on retrimming it and reinforcing it and fibreglassing some cup holders where the original radio deck was).
*Wood trim electric window switch panel - any kind of repair is fine
*Full Plastic Dash 90-94 - i still need my car, so i'll work on a dash and swap it out when complete.

Thanks again for all of your assistance...

    Tim

Great news Tim! Can't help with any bits, but I look forward to seeing how you get on with all of this.

Start a thread up in 'Projects & Tutorials' and post heaps of pics as you go!

I was unable to find a decent centre console for my 93 Vogue (not softdash)after several years of looking. I finally bit the bullet and got a fibreglass one from the UK. Expensive mistake. Didn't fit properly and just didn't look right.\
When I have more time I'm going to get a small plastic welder suitable for interior work and do the training course. With practice you could return even a badly smashed up console to near perfect condition.

I removed my damaged console and fitted a large piece of dowel between the 2 sides on the inside at the top and then fiberglassed it all up . That was in 2005 and its still sound today no cracks no moving all good.
I also painted it.. and that too is ok.
When I get in the rangie and lean on it it doesent move.
Saved me some money that did
Tim go and see Peter at trimcare in Carlise re the trimming you need done.
He is an ex Rangie driver and club member. I have been using him since 1986 and his prices and quality of work are good.
