A new project
G'day All,
Now that i have my range rover at a point that i am happy with I am thinking about whats next.
I have spent a bit of time thinking about turning a 2 door rangie in to an off road racer/weekend toy.
This would mean it doesn't need to be registered so i was thinking along the lines of a small block chev (maybe ford windsor?) engine transfer. So if anyone has done this conversion before can they please send me a PM so i can have a chat and work out what i need to consider before starting planning.
Also, anyone that has done a bit of offroad racing, any advise is more than welcome.
Cheers,
Craig

By the way, I know this topic has been covered a few times. I am just looking for someone who has had personal experience doing it.

Righto I have done a bit of research and have decided what i would like to do.
I am thinking a older carbied holden 308 engine, bolted to a ZF four speed. The ZF mainly because i have one in the shed, and the holden 308 because Tasmania has a high concentration of bogans that have a knack for writing off commodores, so it should be easy to track down an engine on the cheap.
I have had a look at marks adapters and see that they can supply most of the the parts needed to avoid a whole heap of fabrication mating the engine to the gearbox.
Now what i need to find out is how well will an old two door cope with such a jump up in weight and power. I'm assuming the diffs and drive-train in general will need strengthening (upgrade to later model diffs?), The front suspension will probably need an upgrade to deal with the weight gain(dual shocks?).
And finally will a two door fit a ZF box?. The tunnel doesn't look as big as later model Rangies.
At the moment this is a hypothetical, I just want to find out if this is within the realm of reality before i start digging a well to throw my money down.
And of course, Any advice is more than welcome.
Cheers
Craig
