the speedo cable broke so I removed the old one...When putting the new one in it went through the motions and when tightening the clip its bottoms out before tightening, you can pull the cable and create a 2-3mm gap between the LT230 and the cable....
I don't think I've got the clip in the wrong way and don't think I'm missing anything (I've got clip, cable, nut/washer)...
I'll post a photo tomorrow but its unlikely to help...
I've attached the photo...it shows the cable away from the housing to show the clip as well...The little angle should face the transfer case and lock into the little groove correct?
Looks to me as though you have the clip upside down.
Remove the nut, washer and clip.
Insert the cable (ensure the collar is seated).
Whilts holding the collar in, replace the clip (flipped), washer and nut.
The clip holds pressure on the speedo cable collar with the fork.
I'll try to upload a picture tonight.
The clip was bent to buggery (to give you an idea that clip is on the correct way).... Which was hard to see holding a torch in my mouth and trying to hide from the rain under the car...
Speedo works again.. but is terribly inaccurate and notchy (-10km up to 90-100 -20km 100 +) I think I'll keep the gps but its another tick on the rego transfer list...
is there anyway to improve the accuracy and make the needle smoother?
check and see if it isn't kinked. It may also be on the way out. that is what happened to mine. It broke just down the sleeve behind instrument binnacle. turns out it was twisted when I replaced the old one.
Hope this is some help.
I had a similar problem only recently. It was worn speedo cable connections. Check the cable ends are square. Not round or oval. Also check the shape of the speedo output drive on the gearbox. Mine had disintergrated. Where the cable slots in should be square.
