Not really love the classics. Will feel alot nicer to drive than a disco.

The engine will be the same as the disco. If fact alot is the same as the disco apart from the Body work. Which often makes me wonder why they are so much nicer to drive than the disco

When I used to look at them in the Uk, rust used to be the mayor thing
but not really a problem here. Normal rust things are rear top tailgate , bottom tailgate , sills , inner wings.

Normal checks for them, gear box , transfer box , diffs and engine

Hey there.I have had a 86 classic with a 97 Discovery 3.9 in it for 4 years now and have loved it.Starting to get a bit old though and in need of some work so I picked up a good cheap 95 Disco with a buggered motor and will put the Rangie motor in it after I do the top end of it within the next couple of weeks.Great thing is that I have a lot of spare engine parts now.The only rust in my classic is in the front floor pans from leaks and the upper tailgate, apart from that the car is totally rust free. They can tend to rust in the sills, the rear main frame section under the tailgate and near the fuel filler on the floor inside the rear cargo area and the firewall.I also have a gas system for the rangie on the 3.9 that I am wanting to sell, if you are keen just PM me,I am a 1 hr drive sth of the Gold Coast. The Discovery I bought has a gas system in it already so I do not need 2 of them.
    Cheers

Maybe I'm a bit biased, but I love my 86 Classic. Mine is the 3.5 with manual, an I wouldn't have anything else - mmm except maybe a L322...

Anyway, for a car of its age, they are great. I get a lot of comments about how well it drives. As mentioned, look out for the usual stuff - there are plenty of threads & posts about this on the Forum. It might also help if you have some mechanical skills, as they probably aren't the most reliable vehicle, but certainly worth the effort.

    Cheers - Gav.

..Its a darn sight better than my '95 Classic... At least you've got a *real* centre-diff, and a better-by-far turning circle. - Not to mention a proper vacuum-boosed brake system...
