I had a similar problem with my first disco (3.5 v8) every 1000k's aprox I had to switch out the plugs, I went travelling to cape york and most of the east coast + tazzy like that. Along the way I took it to many different mechanics including Land Rover in Townsville (who charged me $180 to do ...nothing). eventually I got home and decided to sell it (bad blood) after it had sold it turned out to be the MAF sensor on the intake(small box between the air filter and plenum/intake manifold) first thing I would do is swap the plugs for some new ones. if this temporarily fixes it then try another MAF sensor.

    G`day , suggestions only .

Either too much fuel or too little air would be the first checks .

Check the airclean element , the aircleaner inlet and also none metalic pipe work , pipe work can be sucked and close off the air . While doing this check the vane goes freely through its cycle , inside the airflow meter .

Pull the plugs or at least a couple on each bank if one bank is black and the other clean check the resistor packs and their wireing .

If it cleans up when it`s at running temp , check the Coolant temp sensor , one in the inlet with a plug same as an injector .

Disconnect the cold start injector , if it clears up check the cold start system .

Find the vacuum line to the fuel pressure reg , remove and look for fuel , should be none and suck on the pipe whlie it is connected to the reg should be hard work .
