Did you take a look at your rocker gear?
If your rocker arms/shafts are worn you wont get much oil flow to the pushrod side of the rocker arm. Then not much of a drip to the end of the rocker that acts on the valve.
I took my right hand rocker shaft off for a bit of an exploratory look at lifters etc.
I replaced two rocker arms and pushrods and i have reduced my ticking sound.
Bradtot , holden V6 engines have Hydraulic ROLLER lifters , not flat tappet ,you aint going to able to use them in a hurry !!!Like the bit about various EFI systems making up or some how nullifying Cam changes . NO not even close !!! It may appear that way but only at idle where the cams overlap (lumpiness) is smoothed by good accurate sequential injector firing and more than likely the new cam had much the same Lobe center seperation (112 for EFI) Stick in another 45-50 degrees of overlap , 106 centers and 4 degrees advanced and lets see the EFI change that back to standard .!!!
