3.5 V8 what basic things can I do for HP

Hello Everyone. As per threads I have myself a very nice original 2 door, I love it but the 3.5 High Comp is somewhat lacking haha.
Is it worth taking the air pump and pollution gear off?
Is there any basic things I can do to give it a few more precious HP?

Primarily the camshaft I'd say. Either a pre-pollution cam or an EFI cam for my money. Then play with the timing advance, possibly a Scorcher distributor.

Yours must be the last one in existence with the air pump etc connected! LOL
The high comps had a pollution camshaft which really affects the power so as Bee utey says , a cam will help.
EFI cam, EFI exhaust manifolds, and some work on the heads will bring it to life, but if it has 200Kk on it, you should not play around.Just be careful with cam selection as too big a cam will give you a good top end but annoy the beejeesus out of you , needing a gear change on every small rise.

I replaced the original carbies on my 75 with a later set (87ish)I dont know what condition yours are in but that did make a big difference to mine. At the same time I also removed the belt on the aircon pump, the aircon wasnt working and there was a bit of resistance there, but its hard to tell how much it helped when I did both things at once.

Yes the originality of mine is borderline amusing, everything still works as it left the factory! Even the stupid little over-run valves in the carbies are still connected and not soldered. The air pump system is on and working as it should but I may take it off, though maybe I should just leave it until it stops and live the if it aint broke don't fix it therory?? Unsure.

Thumbs up Just my 2 cents worth

Hello I have a 3.5 1982 model 4 door with the hp motor, Air con works and no air pump attached, I have notice a HUGE improvement running 98 ron in mine as the book does recommend 98 ron.
Hope this helps yep dearer than most but great performance improvement also added some carbie clean to the tank and changed the radiator fluid.

    Cheers

I feel like I get a lot better economy from running 98, almost enough to cover the cost of the extra octanes sometimes..
