    Talking Can you improve RRC BRAKES?

    Pete; My RRC Brakes have upgraded to the Vented rotors type , you can order the spacer kit from karkraft for your calipers.

    I've got to ask. My Classic brakes are great so I'm a bit curious as to why you want an upgrade

    I have just upgrade my brakes on my 86 rangie. I am running 33 inch tyres and the rangie didn't want to stop in a hurry.
    I installed defender 110 calipers to the front and back. The calipers run a larger pistons approx 45-46mm compared with the rangies approx 41-42mm. You only run one brake line to each caliper.
    The difference is unreal. I can actually lock the wheels on dry tare now.

    PS. if your rangie has stock wheels the old braking system should be fine. make sure the pad is fully contacting the brake rotor and wearing evenly acrossed the whole disc face.

    We noticed a fair difference changing to slotted rotors, however as mentioned defender calipers are the way to go!

    Are Fender calipers a straight swap out or, if not what is involved. I use my RRC mainly as a tow pony, so better brakes would be great.

    Credit where its due... my '95 Classic brakes are very impressive, despite the ABS & T/C warning lights being constantly lit... Have'nt been able to lock it up yet... -the car stops too quickly !

    The '89 we used to tow a 1 tonne sweeper, coped remarkably well with the total load... the trailer-brakes were "ineffective" to put it politely...

    Would better/differant pads make a big differance? - Or are ventilated discs the First Step towards instant stopping ?

    They are fine till you go large tyres

    Piston size is what makes the difference, tried all sorts of pads, cross drilled and slotted rotors and by far the larger pistons make the difference
