Weird starting problem on me 88RRC

    Yeah , a little strange !
Wont start if being turned off for more than 12 Hours !
Car is fitted with a fuel rail pressure gauge , that reads accurately.
While cranking , no fuel pressure is shown and it wont start (probably due the lack of fuel , no **** sherlock !!).Now, simply jam the flapper valve gate open a bit and Voila 35psi and it starts . So Ive deducted it takes at least 12 hours for the fuel rail pressure to drop to Zero .So, somehow the cranking signal is not getting through to the Fuel pump relay , but the Air flow flapper signal is getting through and energising the Pump
Where is this wire that takes the cranking signal and uses it to run the fuel pump relay . ? Does it work through the "Current steering module relay" the same as the Flapper air flow signal ?. Could I have a dead Diode in the current steering module ? Three relays under the seat, the main relay feeds the current steering relay which feeds the Fuel pump relay . They all look fine includinjg the wiring .Any good auto-spakies out there seen this before ? There doesnt seem to be a wire coming back from the starter/solenoid , but may be coming back from the starter relay ?
So that leaves with the fact that the fuel pump does not run whilst cranking , although it should . any help appreciated !!!!!!!!!

Hello If you turn on the ign and have someone move the flapper you should hear the fuel pump start. its the movement of the flapper when cranking that turns on the fuel pump. In the files section on this site is a description of how it all works in PDF

The starter motor may be a bit slow. Mr. Lucas's famous product isn't always the best, 23 years on. Try a bit of right hoof to generate a bit of airflow to open the flapper. Check the intake hose isn't cracked/perished.

If my memory is accurate the flapper still had a timer relay .

This does what the ECU in 14CUX does, it turns the pump on for 3 seconds when the ignition is first switched on. All Bosch based injection should do this and if yours doesn't ther eis something wrong somewhere.

This pressurises the rail enough to start when the flapper opening turns on the pump again. AFAIR cranking is not fast enough to open the flapper.

In the federal injection this was a long , black relay that cost a bomb.

Nah PhillipA , no "timed " start on a Bosch / Lucas L-Jetronic like the Flapper on the 86 to 88 models .Thanks to Bradtot,s little reference to that excellent article on the entire L-jetronic system, Ive found the offending White/with red tracer wire that had a loose bullet connector at the Ignition switch that didnt allow the starting/cranking signal to get through to the Fuel pump relay .All is well now , Thankyou Bradtot !!!
