I've used a 27mm 6-sided socket on my present P38A, on my previous two Rangies, D1, and 110. I'm pretty sure I've used it on my IIA as well.

After all this discourse, I don't know if you realise that those silly covered nuts are not the standard equipment nuts on an old 1991 RRC.

My 1992 RRC has NORMAL nuts that are painted silver, and these are readily available as Chinese copies , but of course the price adds up if you are buying 20.

AFAIR, these poxy nuts became available in later D1 around 1995 or so. The yanks must have decided the old ones were not pretty enough.

yeah I have had those same tin capped nuts on my 91 with disco rims. They wear I found and get stuck fast in my socket - in the end I had one stuck so well I had to use a screw driver to punch it back out - of course the tin covers a hollowed nut where as the standard RRC nuts are not hollow. In the end I have changed them all over to my RRC solid nuts.... OH! A bit of a spray with fish oil I found made them nice and easy to put on and get off
