Hi all,
Back when I joined AULRO I was about to start a long needed overhaul of Our 84 TF 3 speed auto Rangie and the more I looked the more needed doing.
I liked the Auto for strength and reliability and the old girl had done major work in the 11 years we had her but it was going to be a major overhaul and I couldn't justify it.
So we watched out for a replacement, Disco's, SIII wagons and other Classic Range Rovers.
What I sought was an honest, relatively unmolested Vehicle for under 5k.
If I spent the full 5k then it had to be pretty schmicko, if I spent less then I had cash to get the thing Roadworthy.
So what we bought... was a 1983 4 speed manual RRC.
Under $1000 and i drove the old girl home a few hundred km.

Standard 3.5 high comp, 4 speed sounds ok apart from a bit of bearing noise.
The old girl looks like someone has spent some money a while ago and the driveline and steering looks well kept.
Steering box feels a bit loose but I will try adjusting it first, Back of the valley leaks oil too and it looks like the Valley cover seal has shifted which is first on the to do list.
I have the air cleaner and bought a set of filters, valley gaskets and an intake manifold gasket as well as a few other bits and pieces from FWD.com as well as a transfer level gaiter/boot.
Fingers crossed its pretty much ok as Id like to get her registered sometime soon and enjoy her on and off road.
Cheers,
Tony

That's it now, you're a lost cause. You've finally sucumed to the dreaded Land Rover malady 'LandusRoverus Multiplicitus', once contracted rarely shaken off. A bit like Cold Sores really (but more fun). Many have tried most have failed, the most effective remedy is usually SWMBO cracking it together with threatened removal of 'conjugal rights' and other domestic benefits. But seldom effective as the sufferer usually choses to 'gut it out'.
The most effective solution is to KEEP THEM APART, Land Rovers can breed at an astonishing rate if left un-attended. Think of them as teenagers in San Fransisco in the 70's.
Good luck with the 'restoration'.

PS. Keep the poor thing covered up otherwise she'll freeze to death up there over winter.![]()
Pfft, Ive been on "A Ban" before and the best way to deal with it is to BAN SWMBO for double the length of time..............
Anyway, Mines an evil one because she finds all sorts of stuff on ebay/bumtree/tradingpost etc and then says these dreaded words... "Come have a look at what I found Hon!".
Yep, Jenna "Finds" stuff online and Blackie the Range Rover was no different apart from the fact that she is fairly unmolested.
The Woman still confuses me and i reckon thats why she finds stuff like this lol

Once the weather really gets cold she will head into the barn, BTW im not up high elevation wise being more Berrys Creek than Mirboo north.
Im roughly 235m above sea level.

Noticed you had a new addition in the front yard, now just don't get this one stuck in the paddock![]()
LOL yeah nope.........
THIS one isn't going anywhere near the boggy bits until I have some better tyres, the BFG All Terrains just don't cut it in the clay sludge here so im going to find something a lot more aggressive without going too stupid.
For the time being though im chucking the Wheels from the Silver Rangie onto the Charcoal one as I know they are all evenly worn and then I'll duck off to Morwell once the thing is registered to see what they have for off road treads.
Might even add a Winch to this one.........

Does anyone have any idea what the colour is?
I've done some hunting and closest I can get is Slate/Cambrian Grey.
I checked the metal sticker and it is pure chook scratching and I cant read it.

Like your choice my friend, I love my 82 Rangie and will never part with her, purchased 6 months ago, 2 owners and under 100,000 kms.
Just replaced all hoses, water pump, batteries, fluids, and she is great.
cheers![]()
