Im very happy with it too Tim, Simple and well designed in a time honoured and tested form.

And the proof is in the driving which I enjoy a lot perched up high with my arm out the window.

I've driven some interesting and exotic stuff over the years and the Classic Rangies still do it for me.

I remeber seeing that on on e-bay, I like the early 4 doors Classics, simple, basic and honest but getting a good one is the trick

Still I like my 89 with the 3.9, auto and a few luxuries (I do like my armrests) but that's me. Still basic enough to maintain myself which I like as it has no ABS or electric everything which suits me.

Appearances are deceiving. My '89 Paj puts my head higher above the road than my '95 Classic.

However, the Classic has a relatively lower door line, which makes it easier for one's arm to hang out. It also has a much lower roof-line which masks off most of the sky, once again giving the impression of 'height'.
Another thing is the seating, from memory the cloth-seated one I used to drive tended to hold you 'on' the seat-top, rather than sink IN/down like some Jap 4WD's.
    - The leather ones in my '95 most definately perch you on TOP of them !

How low is the roof? - Mine has a sunroof, and if I fail to brush (what's left of) my hair, the lining gently reminds Sir of his forgetfulness.
The (standard roof) Paj has several inches clearance.

Yes, I like the Classic's driving position.

Yup she was an ebay find, the pics were much better than the real thing but I wasnt fussed with cosmetics to be honest and the underside is in excellent nick and well cared for, the fact that the tin manifol gasket has a split at the back of the valley meant that the underside was well protected from rust/oily or as I like to say Has "excessive territorial instincts" lol but I bought a britparts composite valley gasket and 2 new end seals for the valley so it should be oil leak free shortly (Till the next leak i guess)

And as soon as I figure out what the actual colour is (Charcoal?) im off to buy some 2 pac and give her a coat of jam to match the grille and headlight tins and front bumper and then she is off for a roadie and some rego.

Im also doing the gaiters/boots on the gear lever and hi/lo as they too are stuffed and replacing a few seatbelts and maybe the screen and that should be that!

Being only 5 ft 8 my scone doesnt go anywhere near the roof lol but yes the driving position is good and actually fairly good even on an incline offroad.

I used to do a bit of hoonage out the back of Gembrook when i lived down the road and I found the classic more than good seating wise there too.

So the official description should be that it has a far more "Scenic" seating pozzy?

As Deano suggested I not leave her out in the cold I moved her to the Garage before the really cold weather hit here (And it has).

She was due to be moved today but has spent the last few days languishing in comfort while I start on a few repairs.

Simple stuff inside like remove awful purple pimp tint (Both rear doors done so far), Replace range selector boot with new item. (Stripped and waiting new boot)
Repair/fabricate gear shift/diff lock boot/Gaiter (Job for the missus)
Degrease top of box and tfer case while gaiter and panel is off, check/R&R Diff lock switch
    Replace rear seatbelts.
    Fix speedo
Hook up/repair oil temp gauge. (Its there so it should work)
Find humongous oil leak (Found it! a crack in the valley cover tin at the back of the valley near the rear seal)
Mic up all 4 disks, skim or replace as needed
Vis inspect all brake callipers and hoses
Swap Mags for steelies with evenly worn (50%) BFG A/T's until I can afford something new and aggressive.
Replace all exterior globes with LED's and clean or replace all lenses (Left front Ind/Park lens U/S as are both front side repeaters)
Swap rear upper tailgates over. (Refit demister circuit and connect)
Replace all 3 wiper heads with new Trico units
Refit and make functional front and rear wiper bottle, replace all hoses.
    Finish cleaning engine bay (Done)
Paint air cleaner assy and fit new filters (Waiting for warmer weather)
Tart up front tin's inc swap Silver rangie grille into Charcoal Rangie and paint headlight surrounds satin black to match grille, sand and prep front bumper steel for 2 pac and refurb rubber ends.
De grease and pressure clean under carriage, check for damage or worn mounts R&R as needed.

And finally **** quick coat of 2pac over Range Rover in suitable Metallic charcoal or Mercedes colour "Anthracite".

And if they knock the windscreen on the roadworthy inspection then they can replace it at the mechanics (got to give em something to keep em happy)

A fair old list but all fiddly bits and pieces, I use job cards to track what has and hasn't been done and so far I've spent 17 hours on her and found most of the issues I was looking for as well as a few I "Found" lol

    Some piccies from today's effort.........

Check out the body, she is a bit rough and has more ripples than a cornetto.

Another body shot, purple porno tint half gone and the "Gotti" alloys which are about to be temporarily replaced with steelies.

From memory, I used Toluene to remove the residue from my window tint (not on the Classic...) - Kinder to the glass than trying to scrape it off with a razor, - and risk the odd scratch or two...

    Coming along nicely!
