    Heater lines

When I went to connect up the heater, I came accross a couple of small issues - 1st is that the bottom heater connection sticks too far out of the firewall and I will be struggling to get a hose on this - I may have to pull the heater out again and modify this.

Second one was about which line goes where - looking from the front of the car, does the LHS pipe run to the top or bottom of the heater core - I can't work out which way the coolant flows on these lines.

    Cheers - Gav

i remember i used a mix of hoses to get it right, i think i cut the lower hose so it didn;t come out too far before it turned right angles.

in this pic the hose closest to the camera goes to the bottom, and the one closest to the intake manifold goes to the top, well thats how mine is anyway. I've also got 2 hose joiners in there as i couldn;t get a hose to suit, and joining there seemed the easiest way.

Ok, next little puzzle involves the wiring harness from the Disco - I'm posting this here, as this thread has been used for all these little bits and pieces so far.

Now, I'm hoping someone here can save my some leg work - I'm just being a bit lazy really. The 2 plugs that usually live under the dash of the D1 - I think they are connectors C216 (7 pin brown plug) & C215 (24 pn white plug) - (although the info I have found - the colour coding on C215 doesn't match up) I am looking for a wiring diagram for. I don't have a RAVE for a Disco, and don't really want to buy one to identify 2 plugs. For clarification, these are the plugs that go into the main wiring harness for stuff like the fuel pump, etc, etc.

Does someone have anything to help out with, or am I stuck tracing them all out? Not the end of the world if I have to, but it would make it a bit quicker to intergrate into the Rangie.

    A few more quetions...

So, almost got everything sorted now, but I have a few questions left I need answers too.

Fuel system - fuel pressure - when I fired up the fuel pump this arvo for the first time to check for leaks, etc I removed the return line to check flow back to the tank - There is nothing coming out of it, but if I depress the schrader valve on the fuel rail, it will hit me in the face, and then some. I am using a fuel pump from a 3.5 EFI flapper style system - I got the whole tank, line, etc out of an 89 (I think) RRC. Is this pump suitable, and what fuel pressure should I be getting? I don't have a pressure gauge, but can I measure the resistance of the fuel pressure sender to work out if I am ok here?

I'm looking to try to fire it up tomorrow for the first time, so I should know soon enough...

Vac line to the fuel pressure regulator - where does this run to - does it just hook in anywhere I can find a spot on the intake?

Also, there is a larger vaccum line that comes from the bottom of the intake that runs to a tee - one side runs to the crankcase breather on the rocker cover, and the other side runs to...?

EDIT - forgot to add that I found out that extractors of a D1 aren't a direct fit into the Rangie - they end up a couple of inches lower than the standard pipes, and run straight into the crossmember. Not sure if using the D1 crossmember would fix this issue - it looks quite different, but the exhaust would end up quite a bit lower, which I don't really want, so I've stuck the standard manifolds back on.

    Thank heaps - Gav

23 years after the pump was new, anything is possible. A pressure gauge is always the best diagnostic tool. However the generic bosch pump, BFP772 fits this tank too if you need it. Works well.

The regulator vac hose goes to a small nipple on the back of the IAC (idle stepper) housing. I remember it being recessed a bit.

The large hose and tee goes from the rocker cover (flame trap) to the fitting on the front of the throttle housing, just before the butterfly, on the MAF side of the throttle. The tee branch to the manifold has a restrictor of around 2mm drill size, otherwise you won't be able to get the idle speed down.

    Pic of aftermarket breather tee:

    Best O' luck!

Thanks for that - all makes sense, and the elbow hose off the tee will reach the fitting you have shown, but mine is blanked off for some reason, and has an extra 4 or 5" added to it - the car this was previously in was on gas - would that hose have been run up to the vaporiser for any reason and the original spot blanked off???

    Cheers - Gav

Yes Gav the spot on the intake was blocked off when the gas was fitted and extended to the mixer I think. I never had a fuel pressure gauge but it sounds about the same as you described when in my car. If I pressed the valve after priming it would squirt out to the inner guard.

I might give you a call around lunch time to see if you want me to drop around for a bit of a look. Do you still need a RAV CD, I can bring it with me.
    Cheers, David.

I explain about breather-and-lpg myths here:

    Crankcase Ventilation 3.9

Also it would have been plumbed upstream of the mixer, nothing to do with the vaporiser/converter.

Thanks Dave - I think I've made it as it should be for a petrol only engine.

I found a copy of the D1 RAVE on the net, but it was about as much use as a Pork Pie at a jewish wedding.

It shows all the individual circuits, but not in any order, and hard to work out what is going on - I think the wiring diagrams are made for people that don't know **** about electricity. Was easier in the end to just bell each wire out to work out where it went.
