They're 40amp relays and each one has a max load of 120 watts (either 2 x 60 watt high beams, 2 x 55 watts for the roof lights and low beams or 1 x 100 for each of the Super Oscars.. There are 2 supplies running through their own fuse panels, each limited to 50 amps each through a maxi blade fuse, so they should last ok, and being there are 9 in total, if I fry 1, I'll just grab another from a side light or something.
. I tend to overkill my wiring as I've seen what undersized and crappy installations can do.
I also get them... Umm... Pretty cheap...![]()

Relay mounting bases are modular and you slide them together to create a block as long as you want.
Example
Yep, exactly as Bee Utey said, I bought a 10 pack.

Oh man .... why didn't I find them years ago .... My old car has from the factory about 12 relays ... seperately around the battery from the factory. These are all seperate with seperate wiring ..... I added 3 relays for the headlights and one for the starter. Can you imagine the mess around that battery ..... and the issues you have whenever you change the battery
Next time I need to work on it's wiring, I'm ordering in a couple of those kits and mounting all the **** out of the way!

Got the winch all finished yesterday, and tested today.
This shows the location of the relay box - a long way from the winch, but the only spot for it that is left in the engine bay - and this will cause me dramas now as I have a limited space for the washer bottle now. I need to find a small one - the one on it was huge - the 3 motor ones - 2 small for the front and rear screens, then a big one for the headlight washers (now long gone)
Tested the winch 'in anger' this arvo by 'recovering' the caravan into the driveway. I usually get a few bodies to help as it is a PITA to get up the driveway this way around, but it leaves the door on the correct side to use it as a sleep out when we aren't camping in it. The winch made light work of it, and I didn't even break into a sweat.

So, the last few days have been very productive on the RRC. It is finally properly drive able - not just a short run up and down the street, but properly going, although there are still things to do, I feel like I'm over the hump. This weeks efforts include removal, repair and replacement of the inlet manifold, new uni joints in the rear prop shaft, and installed so I dont have to drive it around with the diff lock in.
Also fixed any lights that weren't working, installed new washer bottle and wiper blades to go with the new screen.
Things that still require attention are the interior which is still empty apart from a drivers seat, a few rubbers underneath that have perished - shocks, etc and eventually the brakes I think. They still work ok, but I can't lock the wheels up. The disks are pretty worn, and the calipers could do with a rebuild. Maybe that's the time I stick Defender calipers on the front.
So, I'll spend the next few days giving it some shakedown runs around town then go over everything to check it's still tight. After that, I'll work on the rest as I get time, but I'll start using it as my weekend get about and see if it is as reliable as it was with the 3.5 carby...
I've got RACV Total care though as any good Land Rover owner does...
