Thanks Trav. My 3.5 was running ok, but same as you - needed a water pump, but it was a bit tired and could have used a new cam as well. To change to this 180KKM 3.9, reco the transfer case, and fix the power steering leaks will owe me less than $1,500 all in - probably about what the car is worth, but still not a bad price in my books. I'll have a bit more grunt, that hopefully won't see it struggle at 100 on the 31" tyres like it was with the 3.5. With the KM this car does (or doesn't do I should say), I'll get 10 years easy out of it now.

    Cheers - Gav

Looking good Gav, you have been busy. By the way Oil and filter was changed about 2000km's ago so should be good for a while. I hope you can work out all that wiring, good luck.
    Cheers, David.

Fair enough, I would have done the same. My 3.5 has a genuine 190K on it as the Rangie is a pretty original beast, the LT77 is okay and only needs the linkage changed ( have one off a dud LT230) but since the floor had to come out to fix it may be worth spending the $$$ for a reco R380 unit.

I have a water pump off a 3.5 engine here so cheap fix.

Sounds good Trav - taking the floor out of mine was the biggest PITA of the whole job. Will be easier going back in though I think now everythings not covered in Wombat mud..

Thanks Dave - handy that I don't need to service it. Wiring should be a snap (famous last words) but I have the loom pretty much as I want it. I won't be fully installing it first time around until I know the engine runs off it, then I'll make it fit where it has to go. Found out tonight that the fittings on the power steering lines are different but my old lines should work out ok. Oh, and I think I'll have to raid the box of bolts at your place - there are a few I am going to come up short of I think.

    Cheers - Gav

So, I'm done for the day - and due to work in Adelaide next week - done for the whole week. Didn't get as far as I wanted to - I never do, but a lot more done. The pedal box is now changed to suit the auto, the radiator, AC condenser, and all the front end is back together, although I will pull all this off again to make other jobs easier - just wanted to get everything fitting, brackets made/modified, etc - all fits well, and looks like it should be there. Got the old header tank & AC drier removed, and the new header tank sitting in situ. Some hoses are have been connected up, but there are others that still need working through - I have some photos Landover took before pulling it apart that are helping here - thanks mate.

The new fuel tank and lines are sitting in the garage ready to go in so still plenty to do, but also a fair whack now done. I'll post some pics of where I'm at next weekend once I have a bit more done.

    Cheers - Gav

ARGH I should have seen this earlier and we should have caught up!

Classic looks great! still going the matt black? One day I will put a 3.9 auto into a 2 door and attempt to put the disco dash in it also making a softdash-esc 2 door. Will have to pick your brains for help!
