    Conversion from a lt77 to a R380

    Hay all,
After last 4wd adventure I blow up my lt77, I've bought a R380 to replace it with. IS there anything I need to make this happen? like is the TC mounts the same?

how do I get the speedo to work, its goin into a RRC 1986.

    Cheers NAT

The R380 is 30mm longer in the 5th gear housing than the LT77, but the R380/LT230 mounts to the chassis side rails should align with the same holes in your and chassis. AFAIK your prop shafts will need to be swapped to accomodate the difference.

IIRC you can always swap the bits from original speedo drive to the new box.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Did you complete the conversion?

Looking at possibly doing this conversion myself, how did you go???

Was it a fairly straight forward swap ???

I'm led to believe that all that is required is the R380 box and Disco driveshafts, everything else bolts up.

    Cheers

    hay!

Well it is pretty easy, there was some things that caught me out.

Oil cooler lines didnt match up(disco version) so I had some made using a disco oil cooler and the TC shifter linkage is different. Its the vertical one, this was a bit hard cos ALOT of people told me that they are the same, even though I'm lying under the car looking at it. One guy said I was looking at the wrong part and I should have left this kind of work to the pros... in the end I found one through Ritters.
I'm still finishing it off. the last thing I have to do is modify the shifter. it pops out a slightly different location, not much BUT enough to make my centre console not fit.
I was running a Disco clutch and throw out folk as well, so keep that in mind. The thrust bearing and carrier are different, I think you might have to ask someone smarter than me for this one.
other than that, yep its bolt in!!!! drive shafts are the same, mounts are the same.
    Cheers NAT

Hilarious! There are quite a few reasons I wouldn't give this job to many pros I've known.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

    Thanks Nat
At least I have a better idea what I'm up for. Just have to find a good R380 box now or a donor disco
