Thread: New ignition barrel & matching keys?

A decent locksmith will be able to recode the new barrel to your existing keys.
The same goes for a 2nd hand barrel if that's a cheaper option.

Does anyone have a good place to buy a new ignition barrel for a 93? I plan to keep it for a while, so new is worth it.

i have seen Britcar UK LTD (a google search or Ebay UK with matching ignition and door locks for earlier Classics, they might also have the later model.

Easy enough to match it yourself. Buy a second-hand barrel from a wrecker, insert your key into the barrel and file off any of the little brass tangs that sit proud.

And buildup the ones that don't make it to the outside of the barrell. But how possible is it to strip a barrell from a RRC to rekey it without completely wrecking it?

I'll be starting with a new barrell.

From memory, to get to the clip that secures the barrel, you have to remove the steering/ignition lock assembly by drilling the heads off the security bolts.
Not absolutely necessary to have all the lugs flush with the outside of the barrel. As long as they aren't proud of the barrel when the key is inserted, it will turn. Several times I have rearranged lugs to the nearest ideal arrangement, then filed off the proud bits.
