Does yours have Electronic Traction Control ? - If you've got the WABCO pressure brake system then you've got it. (No vacuum booster like ordinary cars...)

From another forum the suggestion is ETC warning/malfunction

Otherwise, possibly the car is surprised that both wheels are turning. Or not....

I have had a look and it has the wabco pump so i believe you are right next question is how do i determine what the fault is and reset the light the car has no problem turning the wheels as i have twin difflocks installed this may be half the problem not sure what to do here if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

    cheers Dave.

    Some debate about this!

Difflock :: View topic - whats this warning light?

My RRC workshop manual (93 MY supplement) calls it the ETC warning lamp.

Have a look here, if you've got the time and patience (Pre-requisites for LR ownership...) The TC is operated by the ABS ECU, so a Traction Control issue usually upsets the 'ABS' - Mine has both lights going all the time, but the TC one has recently blown...

    RR-91 ABS Problem

If you have lockers front and rear, then personally, I see no great advantage in Traction Control, (assuming yours operates on the rear axle, like mine) which I'm told may do some damage over time if driven improperly. Comments anyone please ?

Being a grumpy Old Coot, I don't worry about ABS or TC. - So far, applying my brakes makes the scenery stop moving and I don't get myself into situations that need TC. - Would rather have lockers (that always work...) if I did.

Thanks heaps to superquag and Ron .B the light of understanding is finally shining i found the ABS globe blown so have the TC and ABS lights on now also reading the forums it may explain the grinding noise in the brakes whilst driving, the question i have now is, is it possible to dis-connect the traction control from the ECU and remove it altogether i dont want it or need it the diff locks work just fine. If anyone has done this or knows how to do this your expertise would be greatly appreciated i'm learning to have great patience being a range rover owner but i have to admit i am thoroughly enjoying this build-up.

    cheers Dave.

.. somewhere in my shed is a brand new, unused pair of phone-book - sized volumes that claim to be Range-Rover service manuals. - bought for mine, 'cos I looked at the VIN plate and thought it was a 94 model as it was built in July '94.

    It is'nt.

You should be able to get hold of the appropriate RAVE disc. - Print & bind the sections you need as you work through the car.

Soon you will have a printed copy of it all...

If both the Traction Control and ABS lights are on, sounds like you have a problem with the ABS itself, which operates the ETC by applying braking to a wheel that spins- kind of reverse ABS- on the back axle only on these cars. ABS components (pumps, accumulators etc) are notoriously expensive. A conversion to non-ABS brakes may be preferable anyway if you plan on doing some off-road driving, as ABS can make slippery 4wd tracks (and even gravel roads) much more interesting than they need to be. With diff locks you don't need the ETC anyway, as you realize.

There is a simple means of switching off the traction control, it is something like pressing the brake pedal 10 times with ignition 'on' before starting the engine, or with engine running and in park, or something of that nature. Switches the ETC off for the duration of the drive, i.e. until the engine is switched off and started again. If memory serves, the funny warning light will be on if you do this.

You can cut the power to the ecu, and the brakes will operate as per normal - I've done it.

Yes the lights will stay on, and the pump will still work properly, as the pressure switch is not controlled by the ecu. You could easily rig up a switch to turn the ABS off offroad.

The TC i've never found a hinderence in anyway, and if you havn't got lockers yet, it's worth utilising it - something to play with at least, but it's not all that powerfull.

The ABS if definately worth having on road - I can vouch it will pull up quicker than the older models!!!!! How long does it take for the pump to turn off when started in the morning?
