    Suspension lift... By cheating...

Ok, I have looked around for a cheapish way to lift my 1992 RRC and it seems either to be expensive, or looks a little dodgy...
Although, along the way, I have noticed that RRC's and GQ Patrols seem to share the same shock setup (as in mounting pin/eye).
I believe the GQ coils are a different diameter, so cannot be used as direct fit, is that correct?
The question I would like to pose is, what would the outcome be of installing standard length GQ shocks, with 2" springs for RRC?
All components would be new, but I can get the shocks a lot cheaper.
Overall, as an end result, I want my RRC to have at least a 2" lift.
Any info or help would be great.

    Cheers,

    Evo

It's definately been done before, though the valving on the GQ shocks are firmer.

I don't know about the front brake line length though.

If you want to get pedantic, you may want to tighten up the pre-load on the swivel hubs too.

    Ok, thanks.
Do you think it's more trouble than its worth? As in just go get a lift kit that's designed for the vehicle and save some time?

GQ shocks on the back and 80 series on the front

But I still don't see how they are cheaper as you can get custom length shocks to suit any car from around 500 from suspension stuff in QLD

Anything over 2" and you will need to looking at replacing brake lines same goes if you put in a body lift

I can pick up shocks brand new for $50 each (worth staying in touch with parts departments of dealerships I have worked for in the past)
And I can get the 2" springs for $300 for front and rear.
All this I can get close to home (within 30 min) of home in WA.
If it will work, all up I can get the vehicle lifted for $500.
I don't want to go over 2", but thereabouts would be great.
Purely after suspension, I'm not a fan of body lifts.

    Cheers,

What type of shocks are they for $50 must be a cheap aftermarket brand, as for springs that's sounds about normal, I used to deal with wilkos in bayswater and could get kings for around 140 a pair u just got to get the right poundage and the thing will flex like no tomorrow

Something which I need to change on mine

Shocks are bluemax or efs... Can't say I've used either before...
As for springs, I've been told that the new range of king springs made of the new material they are using are pretty good. Good on road control and allows flex off the blacktop.

I have 2" 80 series rear coils and spaced 2" front RRC coils in mine. I had to make bigger spring bases for the rears ans massage the top a bit to get them in. The fronts I just used the rear bases upside down under the originals and used longer bolts.

I'm about to fit GQ diffs though so am going to modify the suspension again. Going to go 3" 80 rears and use 2" rear RRC coils in the front. I have modified the brake line brackets already for more drop.
