If you've got a consistantly satisfactory spark, happening at the correct time... then I'd start suspecting 'FUEL'. - Are you getting enough ? Squirting in at the right time ?

Update
Hi superquag, pretty sure its not fuel supply as the plugs were always wet after turning it over and if anything it was trying harder to catch when the fuel pump fuse was removed and it didn't have fuel going in while it was turning over. Whole garage also reeked of petrol so don't think that's it. Recovery is due at 11 to get it to the garage, I will let you all know what they find - its bound to be something simple and embarrassing but I am beyond caring now, I just want my car back!
