NO OIL PRESSURE :EEK:

Yeah I could probably make up an adapter and plug in a cheapo oil pressure gauge. It appears the sender is leaking, and it doesn't seem to work no matter how much air pressure I blow into it. So I fired the old Rover up and stuck it back into the shed. The motor sounds so incredibly sweet smooth and silent, and is a lot gruntier than the only other V8 Range Rover I've driven.. Especially compared to my old Citroen CX that's the exact same age...... The little 4cylinder in that is so noisy and harsh in comparison ( even if it does seem to have about 4times the power and torque of the V8 :o ).

My experience is that if they are leaking they are most likely stuffed (even if the leak itself isn't bad enough to cause a problem). I think the leakage is a sign that the oil is getting past the diaphragm or whatever is meant to move with the pressure, and therefore it never moves and the switch never opens.

Again - not familiar with the rover V8 ones but if they are a standard sort of sender they are easily available at any auto parts place - even SuperCheap/Autobarn etc have them.

Steve, they are quite unusual, in the low pressure they open at and the thread. The usual parts suppliers do not stock anything like, none of the aftermarket brands make them.

Shane, It will need to be a LR specialist parts seller. And one piece of advice, do not, under any circumstances, buy a Britpart one. I cannot stress that highly enough.

That's good to know, the rover parts place is just around the corner from my place. I"ll call in there on the way home from work and see if he has one.

I rang Rover Parts in Ballarat today. There very helpful, they left an oil pressure sender in there letterbox so i could pick it up on the way home ( there a whole $11.00 ). After screwing it in the oil pressure light now goes out instantly as soon as you touch the starter :) I think this old motor must have pretty good oil pressure to switch the light off so quickly.
