    Classic Range Rover Ride height - Add you measurements!

    Hi all, recently I have been trying to work out the ride height over standard of my RRC.
    But thought I may as well get some details from others and make a thread that may help people when trying to determine the ride height of their own vehicle.

    There are two different ways to go about obtaining the measurements.
    The best method is to measure the spring length. I took a measurement of both front springs and applied the average to get the front sprung height.
    Have done the same to the rear to get the overall rear sprung height.

    My spring lengths at ride height are as follows;
    Front - 324mm
    Rear - 415mm

    I understand that getting in to measure the springs may be more difficult on standard lift vehicles so the next method I used was to get an idea of overall ride height over standard.
    I have taken measurements from two points on the body line, and have an image to show where I took these measurements from, I measured from the two red points to the ground (again took a measurement from each side and averaged them);

    Front - Measurement 1 = 1100mm
    Rear - Measurement 2 = 1160mm

    Id be very interested to have the same measurements taken from a stock standard range rover classic. But ofcourse everyone is welcome to add their measurements, but may help to include details of the following three things;
    1. Proposed Spring lift (as we will obviously find some variances between each persons vehicles).
    2. Tyre Size.
    3. Body lift (if any).

    My details for the above measurements are as follows;
    1. 2.5" Front Springs, 5" Rear Springs (Slowly working out the right measurements, and yes the rear is seemingly that much taller then the front :O)
    2. 33" Silverstones
    3. 1" Body lift installed.

    Anyone willing and able to do the same, please I encourage to do so.
    Doesn't have to be accurate within the mm, I am certain my measurement could be up to 5mm off so don't worry about pin point accuracy.

    Cheers

    The Book gives ride height (mine) as the top/underside of the wheel arch to the gound, running on standard tyres.

    Obviously, the second-best would be to the axle centre. Since yours is 'cut'.... would need some kind soul to measure from axle to your indicated lines.

    Perhaps you should have left your Classic as "nature intended" and not follow some misguided social fashion :

    - Not sorry, and did'nt try to resist ....

    My '93 measures from the centre of the wheel to the guard lip 460mm front and 470mm back. This is with a 351w/4R70W trans and stock replacement type King springs replacing the EAS.

    How about you try take at least one of the measurements for me and report back?

    Thanks, as superguag has pointed out I have cut my guards so unfortunately I can not use this method to compare. If you could provide me with one of my alternative measurements it would be much appreciated.

    Alternatively I do have access to a standard front qtr, and could possibly get the measurements to compare how much is cut from mine and then use that to compare against your two measurements... You know I think I might just do that!

    EDIT: Done - I have cut 83mm from the top of my guard. Standard front guards are 123mm from the body line down to the top edge of the wheel opening. I have 40mm So will put the car on level ground and get the measurement shortly..

    Cheers

    Ok so my front measurement compared to standard is 547mm from axle centre line to imaginery top wheel arch opening.
    Id like to state that this measurement is very rough!

    That means I am sitting a touch under 3.5 inches over standard in the front.
    Minus my 1" body lift means my front springs are 2.5" lift

    Interested to compare this once the winch is fitted!

    Of course still interested to hear from others with the measurements if possible thanks!

    My RRC with working EAS... Resting and locked at "Standard Height"

    From centre of wheel (axle) up to your indicated line... F = 58cm, R = 61cm

    These are averages, as the LH side is around 1 to 1.5cm higher, I suppose to allow for road camber.

    Or else heights have drifted over the years and that Chinaman... ("No-Wun") has'nt re-set them all...

    Edit:- - Do you ever have a problem with altitude sickness ?
