Thanks Bob for such a practical, helpful response. I had thought about that a while back, and after chatting with a couple of others who have belonged to Clubs, and VicRoads, I wasn't sure I could 'qualify', as most Clubs are a wake up to being 'used' for that purpose, so require a commitment of involvement in some way to validate membership, like attending a certain number of club events.

Unfortunately, I've got to a point, especially since having the Discovery a year now, that I can't afford to run both, and any club events would involve distances, which would involve fuel expense. It's all so disappointing Bob, as I really do love driving my old girl, and wanted to keep her, but since my circumstances changed, I just can't afford the fuel. The Discovery was a good buy, and being a 4 cyl diesel is much more economical to run, without sacrificing any of that lovely Range Rover comfort. :) Mind you, I still miss the purr of that gorgeous 8 cyl engine. :(

You're absolutely right about being careful, and I certainly wouldn't be considering the UK option if my Brother wasn't there. I am aiming to have an agreed sale, preferably with cleared funds in the Bank prior to transport, and they would be responsible for arranging that from their end. It is actually cheaper from there too.

It doesn't have to be a 4wd club.... You local classic car club would be happy to have a Rangie ... no doubt. For example I've stumbled across the ballarat classic/veterans club events around the place (locally) quite a few times. They seem to be a good club, with local stuff displays/runs (so you don't have to drive all over the state ...good for me as I have a young family ... anyone for kids screaming in the backseat ?). Likely no "requirements" of attending rallies etc..... I've been intending to join myself for sometime. I have been warned I'll probably cop quite a bit of flack for owning Citroens though... Hee, hee .... Bring it on :banana::banana:

Try a find a nice small club, there's hundreds around with ~~ 20members these days. There will be almost no political BS in small clubs... Though a lot are membership by invitation only.

Or you can do what a lot have done .... Do you have a few mates around ?? Say 1/2dozen ...?? Simply start your own club !!

I don't know any of those blokes but I sure resemble a couple of 'em.

Shame the Tassie Club Scheme isn't as generous and the Special Interest Registration is simply a rip-off compared to the VIC offering.

My dear friend Rich Trevaskis from Shepparton, who died in Dec 11, had a 2CV, and my Dad, despite being a totally one eyed Land Rover man, actually thought quite highly of the Citroens, especially their suspension! Then I guess if he'd been jogging around in an old Series 1 . . . :whistling:

2cv's are the most fun car ever made ......... The only car you can drive absolutely flat out ................. and not break the speed limt :D The look on people faces when you pass them through the middle lanes of round-a-bouts with your foot nailed to the floor ................ and about 45degrees of bodyroll is hilarious (the drivers go all pale faced and ***** themselves thinking the cars going tip over onto them :twisted: :twisted: ).

Sadly there out of my price range for a toy car ... This is my mothers 2cv. As you can see my kids love the bright red "noddy car".

PPS: How does $67 for a 45day logbook a year grab you ... or double that for 90days.... And substantially reduced insurance premiums through places like shannons 'cos it's a club permit car.

I had a read of the link and it's all true (and bloody funny :D:D:D), I agree with clubs too much bull**** and good clubs can be ruined by the wrong sort of people who run it, been in 4WD clubs and the fate is nearly always the same.

I SO don't want to sell it, but don't have any choice financially unfortunately. Only other option would be to let the rego go on it, and yard it, but I'm reluctant to leave it out in the weather, as don't even have a carport where I'm renting at the moment.

That is tempting, but wonder how one goes doing the occasional run up the highway to keep it happening, and Mr Highway Patrol Plod pulls me over, as you're s'posed to only be on club runs with that permit. Hmmm, you're distracting me from selling it! :confused:

Just last weekend my sisters boyfriend stuck his 1940's Ford onto a permit ..... $67 a year ... too good to be true right :banana: :clap2: No stamp duty, no plate fee's ... If your with a club that will view the car and write on there letterhead that they think it's safe for road use, you don't even need to get a roadworthy ( after all what 50+ year old car would ever pass a modern roadworthy. A couple of mine didn't even have seatbelts).

VICTORIAN CLUB PERMIT SCHEME
VicRoads has received a number of enquiries recently concerning the use of vehicles issued with Club Permits operating outside of the conditions of the Club Permit Scheme. The following information is provided for the interest of motoring club members.
The Club Permit Scheme allows the members of VicRoads approved clubs to use their vehicles for a low cost that reflects the limited use of their vehicles.
Vehicles issued with Club Permits can only be used on a highway in connection with official activities organised by or under the auspices of an approved club, and in preparing the vehicle for such club activities. There is also a provision for a club to issue a 'Special Use Authorisation' so that members can use their vehicles for 'one-off' activities such as a family wedding providing there is no commercial gain associated with this use. . . .

Obviously this is old information and should be updated, as VicRoads site confirms everything you say . . .
Conditions of use
VicRoads may suspend or cancel a permit if the permit holder fails to comply with the permit conditions or engages in conduct which threatens public safety or undermines the integrity of the permit scheme.
Club Permit vehicles can be used at any time for any purpose other than for the carriage of goods or passengers for hire or reward. Permit holders are not restricted to club sanctioned activities when using their vehicles.
The vehicle that is being driven on a valid Club Permit must be maintained in a manner which ensures that the vehicle is in a 'safe condition' for use on a highway.
A logbook must be carried in the vehicle, or on the rider (in the case of motorcycles), at all times the vehicle is in use. On each day of use, a logbook entry must be made prior to the vehicle being used (unless the vehicle is within 100 metres of the garaged address).
Ensure that the Club Permit number plate(s) and windscreen label as issued by VicRoads are correctly displayed on the vehicle at all times. . .

Based on your detailed informative advice, I have already applied for Membership with the Romsey Sports & Classic Car Club, which just happens to have been established by Ray & Lyn Allford of Romsey Land Rover Service Centre, or as it is now called Romsey British Automotive.

I posted that:

35600351 to 35600400 (less ..353, ..373, ..383, ..385, ..386) was a large batch of RRs sent to Australia after April/May 1972.
The first two vehicles to Pressed Metal Corporation were 35600022 (Davos White) and 35600037 (Red) sent in November 1971. Got a drive of the white one back then!
