Sounds about right... anything with V8 in the title spells $$$$. The figure includes annual CTP insurance also....
MY99 RR P38 HSE 4.6 (Thor) gone (to Tasmania)
    2020 Subaru Impreza S ('SWMBO's Express' )
    2023 Ineos Grenadier Trialmaster (diesel)

    That's so NOT cool
Would it be worthwhile me seeing if separate 3rd party insurance is cheaper or do you have to have theirs regardless of if you have your own or not?

3rd party insurance is all the same price, you just get to choose from four providers. Makes no difference if you buy it separately as it gets attached to your rego at the next renewal anyway.

    $1001.XX can't remember the cents.
    mines due Friday

When I originally changed from NSW to QLD (~ 3 years ago) it worked out cheaper, then NSW, if you include CTP with the rego (as in QLD)
& fire/theft insurance was cheaper in regional QLD then Sydney.

Add the cost of the annual inspection required in NSW but not in Qld. to get a true figure of the respective registration costs.

Most classics are old enough to be limited use permit vehicles these days. I've chucked mine onto the Victorian logbook permit system. $67 for 45days .... double that for 90days a year. Obviously no good if your using the Classic as your daily driver. If it's just for weekend use you'll struggle to even use 45days a year!

It could be worth investigating the club rego scheme up there?

Some very clear guidelines for club rego in Qld and definitely not as a daily driver. An 83 RRC is only just within the 30 YO requirement and in the grand scheme of things, there are probabley not many pre 83 Rangies that would comply with the "usage" rules.

go to the Transport Qld. web site and look for Special Interest Registration Scheme. With a couple of exceptions SI reg. vehicles can only be driven to and from, and take part in, authorised events. They may be driven to and from a place of repair. Such places should not be extraordinary distances from the address of record. They may be driven for purpose of road testing within 15 ks. of the address of record. Driving to the spare parts shop is classed as private usage and not permitted. SI reg. vehicles found being used outside the guidelines are classed as unregistered and the appropriate fine applies, and, must be parked and recovered by towing.

That's the sh!+ful club registration victoria used to have .... Absolutely useless as tits on a bull The current "logbook" system where you can drive the car for 90days a year, for any reason (other than business usage) is brilliant. The old cars it's returned to the road is incredible. I've even seen really tidy old 120Y's on the roads with club plates. It's almost worth shifting down here just to access the club permit scheme

we "almost" have 4 cars on club permits now... My '85 Citroen CX2500 GTi Turbo, a Citroen 2cv, the '85 Range Rover Hi-line and I'll soon put my '63 Citroen ID19 on. My father also has a '52 Traction Avant he could put on. When your outlay is only $67 a year ( + ~ $70 a year full comprehensive agreed value insurance through shannons) .... it allows you to actually use your old toys rather than have them rot away in the backyard.

Just about any drive on the roads in Victoria these days will allow you to see something old and interesting wearing club plates .... Bloody brilliant!
