Where to move components to allow for Dual battery / snorkel

    Hi all,

I plan on putting duel battery system under the bonnet of my RRC.
But I have a couple of questions,
    1. can I cut down the rubber air hose (Air filter - manifold) circled in the picture, to the smallest possible length to give more room?
    2. Can I cut down the nose of the air filter (long thingi), I will put in a snorkel in it sooner or later?

    3. what are these compontents (circled in other image), I think one is the power steering and one is a coil of some sort and the other is a sphere?
    4. Can I move them ^?
5 Where should I move them?

    Thanks For any advice!

My Classic was an earlier model so I didn't have some of the things you have but here's how I did it.

Oh, I forgot to say I don't know what that circled hose is for.

    1. can I cut down the rubber air hose (Air filter - manifold) circled in the picture, to the smallest possible length to give more room? You shouldn't need to.

    2. Can I cut down the nose of the air filter (long thingi), I will put in a snorkel in it sooner or later? Yes we did this to mine, then when I fitted a snorkel we riveted a metal plate to the inside to cover the hole and sealed it - suppose it will depend on how you attach the snorkel.

    3. what are these components (circled in other image), I think one is the power steering and one is a coil of some sort and the other is a sphere?

    4. Can I move them ^? yes, although you shouldn't need to move the coil.

    5. Where should I move them? move the power steering similar to the pics below from Ron. I moved the sphere thing back between the windscreen washer bottle and the firewall, from memory we bolted it to the decker panel just below where the rubber sits.

Cutting this air intake hose may give you problems as the engine moves on the mounts?

Power Steering reservoir, ignition coil, not sure of sphere (some sort of vacuum reservoir?).

Sorry I should have been more clear.

I want to cut down the intake hose to allow for more movt in the filter so the snorkel will have smaller angle bends and give more room in that front corner.

Before I get to the snorkel I will do the battery, and moving the air intake from the top of the battery is in my mind a good idea?

    Thanks for any advice!

Get an air intake hose off a later Disco or RRC. They're made of rubber only and are much easier to cut down. They retain a flexible bellows section without cutting into any wire reinforcing. The air cleaner will work perfectly well with the intake nose cut off, you will just have a bit more induction noise. You don't need to move the air cleaner back very far to fit a N70ZZ sized battery, they're not quite as wide as the battery tray.

    Thanks,

I want to fit the biggest battery I can, but If I can shorten the intake hose and the filter nose I can fit the air filter in facing the side of the side of the car and I will be ready for the snorkel when I get to it.

    Thanks Guys!

    biggest or most CCA?

I have a couple of optimas, which have much higher CCA then other wet cell batteries of a much bigger size

You can take the fluted nose off the air cleaner to almost no effect. It improves throttle response at higher revs (Bernoullian theory) - that is all.

Autopro sell a convoluted intake pipe that fits on like a glove, similar to this. I've run this for a few years with no issues. I looked at fitting the air cleaner in that spot too; and felt that this pipe had enough flex in it; as the engine on the classics only move about 2 inches at at most.
