    88rrc wont keep running

My 88 3.5 v8 starts and runs for a 10 seconds and then turns off. If I try and put my foot on the accelerator it does sooner. Any ideas on how to fix. Could it be a timming issue?

Mmmm, not likely to be a timmmming issue, more likely a stuffed fuel pump. I've replaced the fuel pump on these with a VN Commodore fuel pump kit. You may need to either drop out the fuel tank or cut a hole in the floor above the tank, with extreme care of course to not cut any fuel lines etc. Diagnostic is to put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail test valve.

I had a similar problem with my 88 RR. Mine would idle but nothing more. Turned out to be the fuel pump. Was working but not enough pressure to rev. I plumbed up another pump in line and engine ran. I also notices that I could hear the fuel returning to the tank which wasn't happening with the old pump. The pump runs when the starter is turning or flapper is open. I took off the air filter and put a screw driver handle in to open the flapper to test the pump. Unfortunately on these earlier RR you have to drop the tank.hope this helps
