    Timing issues

Hi I'm having a few issues getting the timing marks on my range rover to line up, it's a 3.5 efi stroker and I can only get the notch in the balancer to line up with the mark on the engine not the paint mark on tdc, can the balancer be bolted on in a incorrect position

    nope...

unless youve got a damaged balancer thats spun the outer shell over the inner mount.

Where and how was the paint mark put on?

My '88 classic 3.5lt has a timing plate fixed to the balancer with 12deg before to 12 deg after marked. It is mounted about 1/3 further around to the left of the notch in the balancer. There is a square indicator pin sticking out of the engine at 12 o'clock to indicate the timing.

Why are you trying to line up the notch? Is it different on other 3.5lt engines? I noticed my '86 classic didn't have the timing plate, i just figured it had fallen off.
