Unhappy How can I obtain a working air flow meter? (87 RRC)

So I got our 87 RRC back from the Rover specialists after a $1137 bill, and these are the remaining needs:
    New air flow meter
    Front and rear discs
    Frontmost uni joint
    1 engine mount
    New timing chain
    Replacement of all 8 injectors
    New power steering box

Is it time to take it 4wding on the beach during a rising tide?
If not, one key question I have is how do I find a working air flow meter (the easiest on the list but which will hopefully erase her occasional misfire)? I presume the only option is to scrounge wrecks, but can anyone direct me to some diagnostics to ensure I don't replace it with one in worse condition? (The mechs said they couldn't be sure this was the root misfire issue, but apparently eliminated everything else)
Any suggestions on how to achieve the others cheaply (!) and with minimal skill also appreciated

    Thanks!

If the electronics of the air flow meter are OK, but the body is warped / damaged then you can get an XF Falcon air flow meter and swap the electronics across.

No Discovery had the same airflow meter as an 87 Rangie.

There's one on eBay near you:
Range Rover Classic MAF Meter | eBay

99c with less than 2 days to run.

    Smile Thanks!

Thanks so much everybody for generously sharing your morsels of wisdom :-)
Bigjon, sadly I think the electronics is the problem. Redroverdi I will search out uk and au ebay. Unfortunately Scouse I saw your suggestion one day past the deadline to scoop up that ebay offer, it made a bargain at 36 bucks.
I presume their is no way of assessing the condition of a flow meter (other than examining the context it came from)?
    Thanks again!

You can lever the plastic lid off the electrics and check the condition of the contact strip, you can manually operate the air flap and measure the smooth output voltage change (with the ignition on) as the wiper changes position etc. It's a very simple piece of engineering although easily subject to wear or mechanical damage. You can even start the engine and manually move the wiper and see how much better or worse it runs, then adjust the spring position and wiper locking screw to suit. Hours of fun, I've done it a few times in the past.

    This one should fit.
    BMW E24 635 CSI Airflow Mass Meter Bosch 0 280 203 018 | eBay
I understand from deep in memory recesses that the BMW 735 flapper and Range rover Flapper are close in characteristics.

my suggestion is to make friends with another rangey owner in your area. if you find a spare AFM i think its a "2AM" air flow metre by bosch its probably going to be more useful to have a spare one of those than a spare tyre!!! repco can get them but your looking $600-900 :O Ebay.co.uk is pretty reliable and where i got my spare. in regards to the injectors i would say its a slim chance they are the issue. Mechanics just tend to say this instead of saying "i have no idea" IF you do order injectors be very careful of the model number you order there are quite a few very similar ones that wont fit you sound like your going through the exact same thing as me about 2 years ago. The people on here were excellent help!
