1988 Range Rover Classic - project

Thought I'd share a couple of pictures of my range rover.

It is my first range rover. I bought it three weeks ago and I'm optimistic that I can get it roadworthy and registered.

It has covered 335k and came with a bunch of service records that go back to the pre delivery inspection in October 1988.

The car runs well on gas and petrol. The auto box is smooth but the brakes feel a bit soft and the steering is perhaps not as tight as it should be.

I've booked the car in for a roadworthy inspection on Tuesday. I'm pretty sure it will fail the inspection but at least then I will have a list of things to work on.

The car is cleaning up okay. There were a few oil stains from the breather an oil filler. I've cleaned those up. Underneath the car seems pretty clean. There were oil stains around the sump and most of the sump bolts were loose. I tightened them up and cleaned the area.

The paint was flat. I've used cutting compound and polish and the shine is starting to return. I have not touched the roof yet.

I'll post an update after Tuesday with the list of repairs required for the roadworthy. Hopefully it will be a short post.

    Cheers

    Paul

I have a sliver one of these. I've been working on it making it an off road machine. My paint is similar to what your roof looks like. I was washing it today after taking it up the bush on Yesterday and took off the clear coat in the centre of the bonnet. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it get.

    Good luck with your project
