Slipping clutch, was new

Hi,
Took a drive in my new $1600 RR 76 and the clutch slipped very badly after 150 km. It was supposed to have been replaced by the previous owner.

I have taken it apart and the clutch is indeed new and looks fine, so what else could be wrong????

If the hydraulic system isn't working properly it should have trouble disengaging rather than engaging and I could change gears fine, so i figure it isn't that.

Am I being thick or am I missing something? I am about to replace the pressure plate, which looks as though it wasn't renewed, but would welcome some suggestions.

Hi Erik,

I had this with our stage 1, which also has the lt95 gearbox. I replaced the clutch with a new one but it still slipped after changing gear, and then the master cylinder but it didn't help. It turned out that replacing the slave cylinder fixed the issue. I think it had become slow to return, so the clutch was still in effect slightly pressed, so but am not certain.

Also replace the flex hose to the slave while you are at it.

Not sure if its the same setup in a RR, but in my County I had an issue with insufficient free play in the master cylinder rod after changing the M/C, and the clutch wasn't able to release properly.
It was pretty obvious as there was no free play in the pedal when you pressed it.

I've taken the slave cylinder out and it looks rather rusty and pitted, so i have replaced it. I also replaced the hose (2hrs of fiddling:

) and will put it back together tomorrow.

I was surprised that the slave cylinder pushes against a rod that isn't fixed to the clutch release lever very securely (in fact only by pressure from the slave cylinder, otherwise it falls out). Is this normal? I have manufactured something to hold it in place better...

I am hopeful that it was the slave cylinder, but will know soon.

Erik, there should be a plastic clip that fits over the pushrod and clips onto the clutch fork. Maybe yours has become brittle and fallen off.

Here, just for you, as I happen to have an LT95 sitting in the spare room, (don't ask). The plastic clip is known to disappear, and can be replaced without removing the gearbox, though it's a bit of a challenge, to say the least. I don't know for sure, but I would guess that you might be able to get away without it for a while.

No i don't have a clip like that, nor anything that looks like the remains of it, but i manufactured something similar that should work, but maybe while it is out i should do it properly...

No, it's new, so it hasn't starting leaky everywhere yet! The plastic clip is 576723, and there appears to be one for the later boxes that's similar but won't fit, so be sure to specify when you order three or them. Yes, three, because it's plastic so some spares won't hurt.

This is the same as on the SIII 4-cylinder box and I've replaced one with a homemade special tool. It took forever and I've never forgotten doing it, though it would have been easier if I'd known it was actually possible. I think that these days I'd be able to make a much better tool and I'd test it out first anyway, instead of just doing it the hard way and struggling under the car. I'm pretty sure one or two other guys on here have done the same thing.
