But seriously, there are stroker kits for the Rover V8, the engine would go straight in, and yes, Megasquirt looks like a great way to tune it if you're up to it.

Just about every upgraded TD5 in a Disco2 has a ZF 4HP22 behind it, not even the HD 24 version. They will last if they're not overheated (ie keep the ATF cooler clean). These put out 400Nm.

And the ZF autos in the RRC cannot handle large torque numbers from large 4 cylinder diesel engines, either :(

A few mates had these with mild 308's, the rear doors hardly shut as the body had twisted so much, what a pos they were, and so very detuned . Then I had mates that had 11-12 second HQ monaros with 308's that were there daily drivers and very street able cars.

And wasn't it fun starting a Lanz on a cold morning. Bode & Co. in Winton built a crane for their engineering works on one. Normal practice was to use the shop oxy-acetylene set to warm up the vaporising bowl. If it was to be used throughout the day then you would turn it down to low idle and let it shake away all day rather than go through the starting drama again. Mind you, the pre-chamber diesels of that era were pigs to start.

Absolutely. Chip and Intercooler. I hear two lines of opinion on whether that can be put through the auto (and I do run chip and intercooler), some saying that the auto will fault with too much torque, but I'm not sure if that is based on actual torque or a calculation by the ECU.

You'll need 30+psi to make 500Nm on a TD5. The standard turbo CANNOT do that safely.

I have 25 PSI running on mine no idea what its producing although it does have VNT.

You can make the numbers with less boost, but only by putting EGT through the roof.

I have also seen dyno charts with over 500Nm from ECU and intercooler. I dont know, but I would bet the EGTs were up there.
