im a weekend or 2 away from doing that myself. what type a fluid do you use? i went to super crap and they dont stock DXII
Hay all,
Took the the chev/rangie out for a spin, AND its time for an auto flush.
So my old way would be to;
Drain the oil and change the filter, put it all back together, except leave the oil cooler line discounted, and let the old oil pump itself out and at the same time keep on topping it up.
Does this work on these autos?
Cheers NAT

Dexron 2d is the same. I use the castrol transmax fluid. Do not use a synthetic as the valve bodies do not like it!
Remove cross member (good luck), drain fluid, replace filter and put pan back on (good luck with the gasket). Replace the amount that came out, then check the level. Normally about 4lt comes out as the rest is held in the torque convertor which wont drain. I generally do two flushes and replace the filter on the second flush.
Not sure what you mean with the oil cooler line?
just confirming this is it?
Cross member is simple...
Raid one of your daily drivers for the scissor-jack. Find a lump of wood of suitable length, insert both between the chassis rails and wind them apart enough for the member to come out.
- Removing the bolts first really makes it easyl,,,,,![]()

NO !!!! Transmax M is a replacement fluid for IID ...The 4hp14's used to ***** themselves and die 'cos people put Dexron III in them (it turned black an the box would die by 80,000kms). Transmax Z is the synthetic fluid... apparently a "better" replacement for transmax M/Dexron IID boxes. My friend had a fully rebuilt 4HP18 running on Transmax Z, it's valve body played up a lot until he drained the very expensive Transmax Z out and filled it with Transmax M.
I remember reading recently that transmax M had a name change, it stated on the bottle it replaced transmax m though.
seeya,
Shane L.
am i on to a winner?
Yep thats it. Exactly the same stuff as transmax m.
I put a dexron 3 in the transfer case a while ago and immediately it started making noises. Put the sexron 2 back in it and was all good.
