    RRC Water pump compatibility

    Hi all,

Getting into the process of changing the deteriorating timing cover of my 3.5L carb engine. I thought, while it's out, I'll clean up and replace some other bits and pieces at the front of the engine.

From all parts catalogues etc, the water pump to suit was STC483

I went ahead and purchased one of these with a gasket, together with a few other bits.

Once I got the bits, I set to work, but found that the water pump and pulley on the car did not match the one I had bought.

The other RRC I have (also an 84 3.5L carb model) also has the 4 bolts on the water pump and fan - however the previous owner had got the water pump replaced not long before I bought the car.

Where is this 4 bolt pump from??

Seems that the part I needed was STC486... being more expensive and harder to come by of course.

Would anyone on here have any use for the STC483? I doubt it will be worth sending back to UK.

Or... can I use the STC483? My car has had it's aircon removed anyhow....also the viscous radiator fan was taken off in favour of electric fans....
Although I was going to put a viscous back on with this work I am doing to the car now.

Current belt/pulley setup looks kind of like this (I've taken off the water pump pulley and belt)

You know that all the drive adaptors can be swapped over? Use a 3 legged puller or make a puller jig using a scrap of heavy flat bar or angle and remove the pulley from your old pump. Find someone with a press to reinstall it. Make sure the press user has a support directly under the shaft when reinstalling the adaptor. Some large bench vices will happily press on a pump shaft adaptor.

Wasn't sure of that, thanks that should help.
Will see what I can do, my dad has a hydraulic press in his shed; hopefully that will do it!

    G`day ,

The four bolt one is the correct one for a carby engine that wears a viscous fan from factory .

Have tried removing the pulley wheel with a puller, but could not get it free (was very difficult trying to secure the wheel so it wouldn't spin!

I will be chasing a new 4 bolt pump or using the one that was on it. (it doesn't look too bad)
