    Wacky door openner

When I try to open the front passenger door from the outside the inner lock button pulls down, the only way to get in this door is to hold up the lock button while pulling on either the inner or outer door handles.

I've removed the central locking ... still a problem.

I've replaced the external door handle and adjusted the rod to the similar setting as the driver's door ... still a problem

I've disconnected the inner door handle ... still a problem.

My backs playing up so I called it quits for the day, time to research, do I need a new door lock, or has the previous owner done something I am yet to find?

    Any ideas?

I assume this is a Disco 1 or RR classic as a common fault is that when the door lock mechanism gets too much wear this will happen. The only fix is a new lock mechanism which is a bit of a fiddle to replace but can be done

Fergie, short for Massey Ferguson, named by an Auto Electrician mate after we replaced the motor with an Isuzu 4BD1 is a 1988 Rangie.

I had a feeling the lock mechanism might have been the problem.

I should have enough time to call into Silverdale Tomorrow for a replacement.

    Thanks again Mrs

There is a centreing spring on the snib mechanism - if this breaks, you get the problem you have. $30 got me a new spring, and the painful job doing the R&R of the lock mech. Now the central locking doesn't work...

Brian at Land Vehicle Spares sold me a new spring for 6 bucks, took half a day to pull the door apart, replace the spring and put it back together.
