RRC Rim width and height help

im about to complete a 2 inch body lift and im getting all my parts sorted out before I start.... Im about to slap down some green on 15 inch rims with 33 inch tires but im unsure on both the rim width and overall tire width. Terrain for most future trips is mostly sandy so what is the maximum tire width I can run on the front without lock?... and how tall can I go without screwing with geometry and changing gear ratios/ HD axels ect as im still running stock suspension due to my fondness of the factory articulation I have already made fender cut outs so shouldn't be too much rubbing regardless but I wanna make sure

What year and what engine are you running? 33's will change the final drive ratio big time, and an older stock 3.5 will struggle if that's what you have - mine struggled when I went to 31's on mine. I fixed that with a fresher 3.9 EFI upgrade though.

Your drive line will also suffer with the bigger rubber on it. Axels and CV's will break easier under shock loading, etc.

You will soon find that everything will spiral out of control, you will find you'll want more power, and stronger driveline - all good fun though.

You will soon be hooked and not able to stop..

Oh, and I'll just touch on legalities - not sure if you're bothered or not, but putting 33's on without engineering is technically illegal in Vic. 50mm increase in tyre diameter from largest factory tyre only. Yeah, everyone does it and I'm not saying don't but just thought I'd let you know.

EDIT - just did some research - you have a soon to be carbied 3.9 right? I think you will notice the 33's as far as power and gearing goes. Be prepared to change down a gear more often when approaching hills - on the road in high range that is, it will be fine and a pleasure to drive in low.

245s start to eat into the turning circle, and 255s being wider tend to scate in the wet due to the width - thats my experience anyway.

that's right.. I got a 3.9 with a holly truck carb... thanks for the info about high range I didn't think it would effect it that much

Yeah, it will have quite an effect. You are effectively changing the final drive ratio. If you are good at maths, you could work it out - don't ask me to...

Think about this - on standard tyres, you go just over 2.3 metres per RPM of the tyre. With the 33's you will be doing just over 2.6 metres per RPM of the tyre - that is about a 14% increase - you will notice it.
