    1992 vogue se Immobiliser

My neighbour has just had a 1992 rangie delivered via tow truck.
He's bought the car as is, from an bloke he used to work for, who has owned it from new.
The car has been sitting for a few years with a flat battery, apparently the immobiliser wouldn't let the engine turnover and therefore the owners just gave up on it.

We have a key for the ignition, but not for the doors and a key fob with new battery.
The instrument cluster and electrics seems to be ok, apart from the drivers seat controls are operating the door mirrors.

    Now the questions.....
The immobiliser led on the dash is inactive, does this indicate it is disarmed?

Can the immobiliser be by passed in any way?

    Cheers,
    Tony

The alarm/immoboliser bits are near the steering column, just remove the cover to access them - there are 2 screws at the bottom near the pedals, remove the right hand air con vent, then a bunch of screws - there will be a plug to disconnect for the dimmer lights on the dashboard - note that the dash lights will not work with this plug disconnected.

Thanks Guy, waiting for the neighbour to get home, then will have a look.
With the immobiliser disconnected, ignition on and hot wiring the starter solenoid.........Should it start ??????

I had the same problem with a 93 LS the owner of the vehicle
didn't want to replace the immobiliser module so the whole lot
    was removed.
The immobiliser controls the signal wire to the starter solenoid
    yes it will start.
Due to the removal of the unit he has lost the central locking
but was happy to just use the key to lock and unlock.
The car runs perfectly without the immobiliser.

    update

    Ok a little success.
With the ignition on and a hot wire to the starter solenoid, it fires up perfectly.

With the immobiliser disconnected the key still won't engage the starter.
I'm think I need to bridge a wire at the immobiliser plugs.

    or

Is there a 30 amp relay somewhere between the immobiliser and starter.

    Any thoughts?

From memory I just ran a wire from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid that was only powered in the start position.

I worked out all that is need is to disconnect the immobiliser and bridge two wires . Job done.

    Starts from the key now.

Thanks Mocky and GuyG for your input.
