why not just get the OEM correct part and go to an industrial fittings place and buy an adaptor? If not available one is not difficult to make.
Hey guys, I need someone to help me out with some resistance measurements.
Because my rangie has a 4BD1T it has never had the right coolant temperature sensor. I've tried to fudge it over the years, but I'd really like to do it properly.
I need to know at normal operating temperature what the resistance (ohms) of the 85/86 RRC temperature sensor (to gauge, not ECU) is.
To measure this, you simply get the engine up to temp, pull the lead off the sensor and measure resistance from that terminal to engine block earth.
Once I know the resistance required I can hunt for a sensor with that resistance (or close enough to) at operating temp that will screw into my Isuzu T-stat housing.
So far, this is the most promising information I have found: http://translate.google.com/translat...c.php%3Ft%3D85
If anyone can confirm or deny that their 3.5 V8 temp sensor works in similar temp/resistance numbers that would be a great help.

Go to JAYCAR and get a variable resistor. Connect into the circuit instead of the. current thermistor. Centre the cars guage and measure the resistance. Now drive a needle width left and right and remeasure. Guage centre should equate 90 degrees. 1 needle width right would be about 100. 1 left say 80.
You can work out what values of resistance give you a needle reading. Now go buy a thermistor to suit the way you want the guage to read at centre and off centre.
I've done that. But resistance numbers for factory temp senders are elusive.
BTW, 60 ohms is dead centre, 18 ohms is into the red and 130 ohms is barely moved off the stop.
The Argentinian article shows a VDO chart that fits well with my numbers, but the AMR1425 is made by Facet, not VDO. So I need someone to confirm the numbers match.
Ok. i have a new sender at home. I am away for 2 days, but When I return Ill map the values and post them here.
Didnt get home as posted - will check the resistance when i arrive home tomorrow. Sorry for delay
The sensor adapters arrived. They need drilled out to clear the sensors and will also need shaved down in height so the end of the sensor protrudes.
No big drama. But it would be if you didn't have any tools and wanted a screw together solution.
Hi Dougal,
Before you put it in could you map the resistance values and post - if you have time. Ill send you the RR ones today after I make some rocker shims.
