Questions while waiting for my RAVE manual

    Hi there.
I have just purchased and picked up a 1994 Classic, on gas. Its quite rough, but looking forward to getting to know it. I am in the process of downloading the RAVE manual, but having big problems as it hasn't worked and I cant find it anywhere on my computer. So thought id ask some questions till it gets sorted.

I have an ABS and TC light on, my mirrors don't work, or the rear electic windows. I have checked all the fuses I can see, but wondered if there is a known issue that affects all the above together?

And the EAS.....where is the compressor located as mine just doesn't work at all and I need to get that sorted.

And when I run her on petrol, she idles OK, but any touch of the throttle and it chugs, backfires and has no power at all. Any suggestions on where to start on that? Assuming I will have to change plugs and leads, but could there be anything else that I should check?

Thanks, I know this is a big question!

The engine issue could be a number of things from a stepper motor to the temp sender. There is an EFI troubleshooting guide on a forum somewhere - I'll see if I can find it. It is very logical and lists the most likely thing first.

Can't help with the other elec issues, as that's newer than mine and I haven't worked on the EAS on them.

EDIT - here's a link to the guide I was looking for - you may need to be a member to view it. It is for the 14CUX EFI system.

If you are having trouble downloading a Rave manual you can buy hard copies (CD/DVD) from the AULRO shop.

If you have the soft dash model, the window issue may be related to the window controller 'ecu' under the dash. Assuming it is the same as the 95- onwards Discos. They had a dry solder joint on the circuit board.
I had the same issue in mine. Re-soldered the joint(s) and never had another problem with the windows.

You are at the bottom end of a very steep learning curve...

Mirrors are tied in with the seat ECU, the idea being that your seat has two pre-set positions..not just for the seat but for exterior mirror alignment too.

This ECU is located underneath - literally - the driver's seat. Most likely the memory battery has leaked and taken out a few printed circuit tracks.

The rear windows are supplied their power via the window ECU. - there is also a child-proof lockout button.
The common fault is a bad solder joint in this ECU, one or more legs of a relay. - Located behind the glove-box extreme LH side. From memory, you can get at it and the plugs when you disconnect the glove-box arms.

But since the rear windows don't go lower than half way, they're pretty useless at the best of times, and I'd not worry about them till you really have to.

EAS compressor is attached to the outside of RH chassis rail, under and a bit behind your seat. It's in a large steel box which looks like an afterthought, as indeed it is.

Get the RAVE manual.... and make it your bedtime reading.

Thanks guys, It looks like I might have a virus on the computer which was mucking around with downloads and stuff, so getting the rave manual sent via post.

I'll have a look at the glove box ECU thing, see how I go for the power windows. The child lock out button doenst seem to click, or stay up/down, so perhaps that's the issue too!

Sooo, until the rave manual comes im on a bit of a fault finding mission.
