Yep, I have the rave manual. Followed it through step by step as best I could.

Working out the ohms bit was a bit of a trick, where it says "more than 10,000" I always get the number 1 coming up on my multi meter, but when I push the buttons I do get a required response, so I assume its all good. From what I can work out its the ECU, so I'm going to do some more scrubbing and testing on that see if I can get it to work properly. Don't care about the memory, just want it all to work!

Is there a seat from a disco that will fit straight in that I can move manually, and a way to wire the mirrors so they work without the electric seats fitted?

I got my multi meter out again tonight, I can get power at the relays, and on the two long black board things, not too sure what there called, and at a few other parts of the circuit board. Is there anywhere inparticular that I should be testing to see if this thing is working correctly?

Or does anyone know someone who fixes these boards and can test it for me?

So,,,when you tried the Self Test Mode, absolutely nothing moved at all?

Black board things? do you mean the things with 8 legs per side?. These are relay drivers, controlled by the Big BlackThing which does all the Clever Stuff and remembers where the seats and mirrors are supposed to be...as long as the battery holds charge.

When the little blue (green?) battery leaks, the ooze eats into the copper tracks around the relay drivers Integrated Circuits (two black thingies with 16 legs) so the messages from the Big Black Brainy Thing can't get through.... so some or all of the relays don't get told to work...
    - Which is why you may have partial mirror or seat movement, or none at all.

From fading memory, (!) the manual mirror and seat switches are connected to the Brainy Thing, not directly to the relays... This means that 'everything' goes through the Big Black Thing and comes out via those thin copper tracks to/from the Relay Drivers (little black things)

    Simple......

    This look familiar ? http://www.aulro.com/afvb/classic-ra...uestion-3.html

Ha! I love the "big black thingy".....terms I can relate too! I assume the big black thingy is the memory module or something.

But yes, I get nothing at all with the self test mode. not a smidge, no sounds, no whirs, nothing. Nothing on the mirrors either, as in I cant move the seats and get the mirrors to work etc.

i'll have a look see if I can get the big black thingy to work a bit better.

is there any chance that the handbrake switch might have something to do with it? I don't think I get a handbrake light on the dash, and read on a p38 post that the handbrake is connected to the electric seat.
