About to give up after seat ECU repair

well, I took my seat ECU to get repaired by a circuit board repairer. $350 later and they say they checked the components and appears all working. They re-soldered the corroded tracks, ad replaced a few small components like resistors etc.

Put the thing in, and do the seat test function......seat moves back all the way, forward most of the way.....recline all the way back.....but wont move up. And tilt forward and back also only moves a little. Then the mirrors. both left and right side mirrors move up/left/right......but not down.

Went through the rave manual yet again.....reckons the actuator is faulty.....but the seat test function doesn't use the actuator!

So, I'm about to give up on this whole idea of a range rover and sell it. I cant get a RWC if the mirrors and seats don't work, and I cant afford to send to an auto elec, or spend the 1200 or so on another seat ECU.

i'll keep looking for solutions for a bit longer, but I'm almost at the end of my tether! I'll try some wreckers today to see about a new seat, maybe its just the motors that don't work in the seats......but the dam mirrors!

By the way, when I move the mirror actuator down, I can hear something clicking in the ecu....is it possible that a relay on the ecu is bad, or
    'stuck" causing no movement?

The wiring in classic's is not great. If the mirrors don't work before checking out anything too complex remove the switch and clean the terminals on the switch. Using a screw driver or something to scratch the terminals so you have fresh metal to work with.

After than see if you can get to the motors in the mirrors. Clean them up too. Power the motors with a battery back ward and forward, avoid the end of the stroke in case it is possible to damage something. Unless it is possible to remove the motor completely therefore you can just run the motor.

It would be a good idea at this point to measure the voltage coming out of the wires in the car at the mirror end and compare it with the battery voltage of the car. Also do this with the motor connected to see if there is much difference.

You might find you will have fixed your problem enough for a road worthy. But if not and the voltage drop is a lot it might pay to either run new wire to the mirror or run a relay.

The same goes for your seat and electronic windows. Most of these motors will come back with a clean and a run on full voltage.

Why do the mirrors need to work for a roadworthy certificate? Before electric mirrors, all were manually adjusted. Remove the mirror switch & tell the inspector they're manual mirrors.

What year ranige is it? I have two here with full electric, 1 lse soft dash, 1 lse classic. The soft dash I am removing the seats, but not sure just yet if I need the ecu as the mirrors seam to run through it, but sure I can re wire it with relays. You can use parts if they can get you out of trouble, well at least to get your rwc. I will be away for a week or so to check things out need be though.

Thanks Vern. Its a 1994, and you will need your seat ECU to run the mirrors. The ECU provides both ground and power apparently for the mirrors, so don't know if you can re-wire them easily with just a relay. If you can then that's all I will need to do!

In vic, anything that comes out as standard on the car, needs to work properly apparently. or something like that.

I know that when I move the mirrors left/right/up I hear almost a double click from under the seat, but when I move it down, I only hear one click. And its on both sides, so can only assume its still the seat ECU.

I'll keep trying, but its doing my head in. One problems just leads to another, and I really don't like the RAVE manual way of doing things.

    thanks again for the help!

Pretty sure I can make it work, I once put disco mirrors on an a non electric mirror classic, made them work. The less computers in this thing the better.
Just don't have time at the moment, will a few weeks until I tackle it

The stupid thing is its only one plane of movement that isn't working. Power gets to everything it would seem, but there's at least 10 wires going to and from the mirrors!
