has anyone put a turbo on a RRC?

    Hello,
I have a '92 RRC that had a fully recon 3.9 installed just under 2 years ago. Really happy with the engine, the installation, and the ongoing service. I also have a steel rear bar and spare wheel carrier on the back and slightly oversize tires (235/85/R16) Since changing the tires I noticed a greater drop in speed when going uphills and loaded than I expected, so looking at going back to a more standard tire size in the near future. A mate of mine also suggested adding a turbo. Hadnt really considered it on a petrol / gas engine before. Any thoughts or experience would be really appreciated. Has it been done with any great success? The vehicle is a daily driver with weekends spent camping and enjoying tracks around Bathurst Lithgow area. Basically I would like a bit more power when touring, without loosing any tourque. Any thought would be greatly recieved. Thanks Heaps. Jules.

Turboed 3.9? Never seen one. How would you engineer one? Imagine the increase in heat load on the exhaust manifolds, already a weak point. Seen plenty of 4.6 engines fitted though, a bolt in fit.

One of the Australian competition Landcruisers is/was running a twin turbo 3.5 LandRover V8. May need to search on here or Outerlimits4x4 for it.

Nice corset from the same seller!

On a serious note someone in Melby on Aulro posted up a really nice turboed 3.9 4 door RRC last year. Can't find the post. He was happy with how it went.

    Thanks to Everyone,

From the limited research I have done so far, it tells me that more research is definitely the go! Thanks to all of you for your advice so far. I will be having a chat the Bruce Davis for a bit of advice, as it's defi tell one of those possibilities that you want to get done right the first time. If it goes ahead, I will post project photos and progress for everyone to see. Thanks again for all your help. Cheers, Jules.

I had a janspeed (from uk) turbo kitted 88 RRC back in the day, pretty fun, but a bit complicated..exhaust has to run accross infront of the engine..but can I suggest a supercharger..kits are avail and power from the get go.
If you want to drive hard offroad or on, you may also have to upgrade your auto with 24 internals etc (a&b automatics melb), diffs, axles, cvs,cw&p and maybe a ATB centre diff upgrade.

+1 for supercharging...... much better on a V8 IMO.

A mate has an 86 Rangie, 3.5 Flapper EFI which used to be supercharged.
Was running a Wolf 3D engine management system.

When he bought it from AMV Automotive some 12yrs ago, AMV kept the supercharger, but left everything else.
The alternator is relocated lower down, and a commodore airbox is fitted.
Apart from that, the engine bay is all still standard with Aircon and all.

Even still runs the Lucas 2CE Ignition Amp.

Nova Swiss Turbo - CH - Range Rover Classic

The power/torque gains suggest the turbo is only a small part of the improvement.
