... and a vehicle to trial and then afflict with the Abomination.... WABCO pump-pressurised braking system.

Another black mark against the P38, sadly.

Even my 93 hard-dash has that. Do not, ever, try to stop before the light goes out.

Why not? - don't you like the juddering, pedal-pulsing heart-stopping 'no brakes' sensation ?

The alternative, I suppose, is a complete vacuum (i.e. a 'real') booster system and quietly bypass the ABS, which might be cheaper/better than replacing that little plastic -non-repairable- bit inside the modulator....

Mine is smooth. It just requires hercules on the pedal before the pump has built pressure. I want to keep the traction control (yes it works well offroad) so will keep the ABS as long as I can. I've considered looking at P38 parts to remove the dual line front calipers though. There should be some interchange with the early P38 ABS and TC.

My tdi soft-dash has a conventional vacuum booster and MC. No ABS in that one.

Yes, my pedal is 'immovable' as well as doing the above.

Good to know that the TC actually works well... I was having fears of a rear diff/axle breaker, with all that brake pulsing under load. With a fresher VC it should be ok on beach sand.

OdD thing is, had my 3 amigos from day 1, PO claims it's a displaced sensor... Fixed EAS, and since annoying the SRS computer the TC lamp is extinguished... but bulb is NOT blown.

Now to get my ABS re-set on the cheap. (I'll restrain my ire about the stupidity of vehicle ECUs that don't self re-set.)

I don't know about LBW, but but there's been plenty of mechanics who've been stumped when faced with one.
