Interesting what a 'proper' compression ratio and sensible cam will do.

One wonders why LR engineers missed this one...

    congratulations !

5sp manual helps, smaller displacement helps, higher compression helps. I know another owner of an old carby 2 door with overdrive that would record "best ever" fuel consumption of about 10km/litre.

I was discussing fuel economy with a neighbour and my 17 litres/100km on the 93 auto 3.9 V8. He said his 2.2 petrol manual toyota people mover can drink 14 litres/100km when driven the same way.

Haven't had the vehicle long, but mixed cycle driving I'm getting around 19.8L/100km
only filled it up twice so far.... haven't done the interstate trip in it yet.
Might be taking a couple of spare jerrycans though at this rate.

The 3.9 are much better on a long trip on flat ground.

The official 75MPH constant speed rating for UK ones which were high compression was AFAIR 20MPG which is about 15L per 100 and about 19L urban.

If you do much better than that you are doing well.

    I can almost believe that...

Took Sarah up to Bindoon several times. 100km run, 40% urban/freeway, the rest open road 100 to 110 speed limit. Drove on Cruise control.

Best figure was...Running on 95 RON it edged the 20 mpg mark. Just. Normally 17mpg to 18 mpg on 91 RON, depending on traffic.
