I have 2 bare 3.5 blocks on the bench atm, ill check them when I get home, I know 1 has been machined so thatwill be flush but the other is stock, ill post my results later on if you like
Hi All
I have just checked 2, 3.5 v8 engines one 12G 8.13:1 Stage1 and a 22G 9.35:1 County.
My question is regarding liner heights.
On the county engine the liners are proud of the deck on 3,5,7,2,4 and 1,6,8 are flush with the deck.
The Stage1 block is similar with 1 liner slightly below the deck.
Both engines have no signs of coolant entry into the combustion chambers.
The height above the deck is enough to stop a Stanley blade when cleaning.
Is this just a case of poor installation from the factory as I thought that the deck was machined after the fitment of the liners to be flush with the deck.

Thanks Kevin it would be interesting to see what your blocks are like.
As for the liners moving I can understand moving down but not up especially with tin gaskets.
Any ideas on cost to get the deck machined.

Ok I checked and as I said the deck on the machined one is level, the deck on the unmachined one is level too after checking with a Stanley knife blade there is no lip and the liners havnt dropped either
Thats pretty strange as everything I have ever read point to the 3.5 blocks being the most stable when it comes to there liners, thats not to say itcant happen, has the motor ever been cooked that you know of.
Thanks for checking Kevin.
The Stage1 block is low K's still has the hone marks in the bores but has one liner below the deck.
The county engine around 120K's so I will get the block machined at the same time as the heads and hope for the best.
Wether the engines have been overheated is any ones guess, thanks again for your help.
