    Sump Gasket!

    Hi all,
Anyone got a recommendation for a good Sump Gasket on a 3.5?
After a recent engine rebuild and having traveled only 5k's, the bloody Cork gasket (with Silicone Gasket maker) is ****ing Oil from the rear.
Having had experience with these previously, I'm always very clinical when placing the new Gasket.
It's seems it is basically flawed by design, the Sump mating face is ridiculous.
Anyway, has anyone found a decent substitute for the Cork???

    Cheers.

On 3.9 they deleted the cork gasket and just used Permatex.

I sealed mine with Permatex and had no leaks until I sold it. The Permatex is the proper expensive stuff in a pressurised cylinder . I bought it at Supercheap

.... Then it started to leak.

My P38A doesn't leak and it doesn't have a gasket, just a very good sealant.

I just remembered that once before, when I bought a gasket kit, it came with a cardboard/fibre sump gasket. Maybe that's what supplied now. Sealed with Loctite 515 (or was it 518?) it didn't leak either.

I recently purchased a complete gasket kit and it had a grey rubber type sump gasket. Still used very thin bead of ultra copper on each face, old habit I guess.

I think the rubber gasket is for the aluminium sumps.
