Firstly if your front axle ever hit the oil filter there is something extremely wrong with your Rangie! The reason for using a z89a oil filter is to provide clearance to the front crossmember. I always used to use a z9, with aftermarket oil cooler adaptor, and never had a drama. I would never use a power drill to get oil pressure with a dry oil pump, you will damage the oil pump housing. Always pack the oil pump with petroleum jelly before priming with the drill! The price difference between a z9 and z89a should only be a few dollars.
