    Classic Vogue wheel paint

Got busy and sprayed my decker panel while it was off my '89 Vogue - metallic Ardennes Green (acrylic). Also had all four wheels off and got inspired to repaint them too to tart up the old girl. Finding it a challenge with masking to separately paint the "silver" external face of the rim from the green internal area.

Knowing that all metallic paints have to have a clearcoat - is this really essential on the wheels as there appears to be no evidence of it from the factory?

Also does anyone know what the silver colour is on the outer circumference? - I was surprised to discover that it was actually paint - never noticed before and assumed it was polished alloy!!

If you don't want to spray a clear coat (because you want a satin finish instead of gloss) you can add 10% hardener (from the clear coat) into the base coat.

I am presuming you are doing this in 2 pack BTW.

Sorry - can't help with the name of the silver colour on the rims.

Edit to say: If you call up a crash repair paint supplier, they will suggest a generic alloy rim colour. In Adelaide we have a company called Crash Supplies that are extremely helpful with that sort of thing, so maybe they are a national company and you have one up in QLD.

The silver wheel rim colour is "Sparkle Silver" with Landrover paint code "MNH".

I'm not sure how special or hard to match silver metallics are. I bought some silver metallic acrylic from Supercheap a few days ago (too cheap to ignore) and plan to test that on the rim of one of my white vogue alloys.

    Thanks Dougal and Spudboy.
I am using acrylic and also thought I'd try the "chrome finish" acrylic aerosol stuff from Supacheap. Would you be applying acrylic clearcoat over it?

When I did mine, I stripped all the paint off the entire rim, painted the centres the colour I wanted, then polished the outside bit that was painted silver. A clear coat over the whole lot has kept it all looking really good.

It took ages though - and the biggest **** is that I've decided to respray the whole vehicle so I will have to do it all again...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
