Sorry but your shooting down someone with a great reputation in automotive electronics, I thought may be you must be some sought of electronics engineer? I'm not getting into this argument/discussion, I was just curious of your background of expertise thats all.

ive had a read of your article on the other forum.
can you please explain this line, as everything ive read says to do the opposite.

Therefore it is considerably better to locate an auxiliary battery under the bonnet than in the back of the car.

you have no made it obvious why.
in fact you say under bonnet temperatures kills batteries but i dont see anything about why you should put aux batter under bonnet rather than somewhere else.

instead of saying "its in the article" which im questioning, please explain it here.

Use the correct size cable and volt drop is not an issue

I used to run 70mm2 cable to 2 batteries in the rear, this started my old 6.5l chev diesel, ran my highmount, etc....I know all about what volt drop is, I do it for a living! (Except 230, 415, 460v stuff)

Hi Vern and you will have no problems with that size cable.

If others run 6B&S, and your battery(s) was low, the current being drawn by the LOW battery is far more relevant then voltage drop.

For example, I was carrying out tests on a then new D4, when they first came on the market and I placed three batteries in the rear cargo area and the total battery capacity was 225Ah.

All the batteries had been slowly discharged down to 11.58v ( 20% State of Charge ), and placed in the cargo area before a 4 hour drive.

The initial voltage drop was about 1v, but the batteries were drawing over 60 amps.

So which is more important, a 1v voltage drop, or the fact the batteries were being charged with over 60 amps?

I don’t care what the voltage drop is when you have excellent charging currents like that.

It is amazing when all the factors are taken into account how some of the factors become so irrelevant.
